Wednesday Walk in Downtown Dallas - A Cattle Drive?

This was our first visit to Dallas, Texas and while it was a little cool, it was a perfect day for walking. We made the 300 mile trip from Galveston to see the Bulls vs the Mavericks NBA game, which didn't turn out the way we wanted. But this beautiful walk in downtown Dallas was an added bonus.

We just stumbled across this park, which is one of the beautiful things we most enjoy about simply walking out the front door of the hotel and making random turns to see what we find.

The Dallas Cattle Drive Sculpture is located in Pioneer Plaza and contains 49 bronze steers and 3 trail riders. Each steer is 6 feet tall and altogether the sculpture is the largest of its kind in the world. The artwork commemorates the 19th-century cattle drives along the famous Chisolm Trail. It was created by artist Robert Summers of Glen Rose, Texas. I found it interesting in researching about this park that a bunch of local artists sued to have the project stopped because they claimed it was "historically inaccurate". However, the project was completed regardless.

I'm sure this probably wasn't an intended feature of the sculpture, but we didn't see any signs saying "keep off the steers" (lol) and there was no one in the area to care so...

Downtown Dallas has some interesting architecture and in their historical district there are commercial buildings from the 1800 and 1900s.

On a more modern note, who could resist a giant eyeball? And since I'm @blueeyes8960 it had to be photographed and included in the post!

This golden statue also caught our eye. He looks like someone who needs to be an @splinterlands character. He'd be a gold card with flying ability and
ranged attack, already loaded up with his arrows.

This picture of the huge digital screen at the AT&T Discovery Center was so lifelike that I was convinced this was an actual billowing cloth sculpture that was moving with the wind. I had to get right up to it and touch the flat screen to convince myself that it was a digital illusion.

At the end of the evening, I snapped a final picture from our 9th-floor hotel room overlooking downtown. All in all it was a nice trip, that would have been perfect if only the Bulls had won their game!

Much rather ride a bull than a bear. 😁

I don't think that bull made a very comfortable seat but at least it wasn't trying to buck him off lol.untitled.gif

Sorry the game didn’t go as you hoped but what a cool walk
I would love to visit that park and see all the cattle Ron statues

All the sculptures look pretty amazing but after the cattle one it was the eye that really caught my eye lol

Thanks for joining Wednesday Walk :), I truly enjoy exploring the world virtually each Wednesday seeing walks from all around the globe and feeling I am there and experiencing it all myself, such as I did in your post just now :)

The eye caught your eye, lol.
I'm not really sure what its purpose was, but not something you see every day.

Thanks for continuing to support this fun community!

I'm glad you had a great time 🙌 There's nothing wrong with climbing on the steer, it's sturdy enough :) ...

Was this your first time there?

Thanks for stopping by, and yes, it was our first time in Dallas.

These are quite a lot. The sculptures are beautiful and we'll explained. So much money must have been spent making all these. See that giant elephant, the one you said could pass for @splinterlands haha. I certainly will not be here and someone says ' don't touch, don't trespass'. I will. Hahaha. You really had fun appreciating tem all

Thanks @adoore-eu, I think it said the project cost about $4MILLION so that's quite a bit for something to look at, lol.
Appreciate your support, as always!
Have a great day.

Glad to see you had some beautiful, sunny weather on your vacation and were able to take in some tourist sites and attractions while in Dallas!🔆🏛🐂

Love the angle and perspective of your fifth photograph. How did you do that with your smartphone? Very cool!📸

Did you find any good restaurants you'd recommend in Dallas? @blueeyes8960

On the angle of that 5th photo - I have no idea what I did differently, other than I was across the street and angled the shot upward. I was trying to capture the curved building at the corner and I liked the way it turned out. My phone is the ultimate camera for dummies, lol.

We had the best brisket I've ever had at Ennis, Tx before we got into Dallas on our first day. It's Ruston Cattle Co and it's about 30 mi south of Dallas on I45. Other than that we ate at a really good local burger place right across from our hotel downtown - not much to look at but really good burgers - and then we were on our way back because we only went there for the Bulls game, lol.

What an awesome blog post! I loved reading this. That sculpture installation is brilliant and fascinating...and huge❣️ I get why you wanted to become part of the scene !LOLZ You got some amazing pictures of Dallas too. I had no idea she had so much beautiful architecture both old and new contained within her city bones. My youngest son has just got into basketball quite passionately. He is playing at school now and announced a few weeks back that he had been youtubing and that his favourite team was the Lakers with his fave player no. 24. I had to break the sad news to him gently. He got a Lebron kit in the end as they were easier to get hold of at short notice, but still wants a Kobe vest💗Hope the Bulls do better next game for you☄️

I hate Russian dolls
they’re so full of themselves.
