Wednesday Walk: Turning a Road Closure into a Country Walk

After a bit more rain through the night, it was nice and cool this morning. I headed out to the supermarket, but on the way back, I ran into a road closure and had to take a detour. Since it's very rare for me to come down this country lane, I pulled over to stretch my legs and go for a walk for #wednesdaywalk initiated by @tattoodjay.

The quiet lane stretched ahead of me, with green trees, hedges, and stone walls on both sides under a nice blue sky. Normally, it would look lush green at the side of the road. Unfortunately, as we've had a lot of hot, sunny days, the grass looked rather parched.

Further along, I stopped at a metal gate in the wall and looked across the harvested field. I’ve always liked gates. I think it’s because they have that chocolate box look to them. This one didn’t really fit that description, but I still thought it was photogenic and worth a photo.

I spotted a small white butterfly commonly called a cabbage white, I think, resting on a purple buddleia flower.

As I strolled along, I came across clusters of bright red rowan berries hanging alongside the lane and wild blackberries ripening right over the top of the stone wall.

Sometimes an unexpected detour turns out to be the best part of the morning.
