As you might have seen in my previous post, I am on holiday in the French Pyrenees. A lovely mountainous area with beautiful nature.
Just behind the campsite were staying is also a mountain with some hiking trails. One of the trails goes straight up the mountain, so I skipped that one for my evening walk and chose an easier route (I thought) for my evening walk.
The nature is beautiful here. All along the route I noticed these nice plants with these spotted leaves. I haven't seen these before on any of my hikes in The Netherlands.
Most of the route pretty good. The path was clearly visible and free from plants. It was a bit steep every now and then, but not too much. I am quite trained after spending already 1,5 week in areas with big differences in height.
On another part of the route the trail wasn't that clear. Some fallen over trees and branches blocked the way. It sometimes was a bit of a challenge to get past these parts and stay on the route.
The route also took me a bit higher up the mountain which resulted in this beautiful view of the surrounding mountains. Luckily it was a bit cloudy and not too warm.
On some parts of the route there were stone structures. It's quite strange since the only path to these structures is the narrow walking path. It also didn't seem that someone really used these structures recently. They were all overgrown with plants.
I could enter one of the overgrown buildings which had an entrance on the side. It's always cool to find unusual things during a hiking trail.
And this was the view from the inside.
The building actually had a window. At least, an opening that probably served as a window. The building didn't had a roof though. Maybe it once had a roof of branches and leaves, but al least there was no sign of that anymore.
It looks like there used to be a stream or a small waterfall. Or maybe it's only streaming when it has rained a lot.
A little further on the trail I spotted a cave. I'm always intruiged by caves. I'm always curious wether some animal would live in those caves like bats or other animals. The case wasn't easy to access, so I didn't bother to take a look inside.
After a hike of more than 5 kilometers with quite some climbs I safely returned to the campsite where I poored myself a well deserved beer.
