We decided to make a visit to Pediatric Emergency Room after we noticed Jansen had not been urinating for almost 36 hours and also he had gone weaker and weaker. This happened last Thursday when he had his bouts of abdominal pain due to old surgery complications. We usually handled at home monthly when it 'attacked' but this time, he couldn't tolerate even 50ml of tubefeed and kept regurgitated out, we were scared that he was dehydrated. It was raining cats and dogs on Saturday night, after we packed our hospital bags in case needed admission, off we drove to our hospital which took us 45 minutes.

As usual, we were greeted by calm nurse who asked us from A-Z, took blood pressure and temperature, then she asked me to walk all the way back to the aisle to register. Husband was still finding car park, so I found myself like Wonder Woman carrying heavier Jansen (I noticed he was heavier when he was weak) and my bag to the Registration Department.

Registration

Everything was done by kiosk, so I gotto walk to the kiosk to made payment, walked back to registration to show him the proof of payment then all the way back to the other aisle to reach Pediatric Emergency. What an exercise!

Showed the nurse the proof of payment and she asked us to sit down to wait for call. I looked around and noticed that it was a colorful vibrant looking emergency rooms.

We were seated at non-critical zone because Jansen's oxygen saturation seemed OK. But behind us there were children on half-critical zone who either needed nebuliser or oxygen support. It sadden my heart to hear them crying or kept coughing. 😔

Nurse came and told me thr doctor at cubicle 5 would attend to us and asked us to change our seats closer to this cubicle. Jansen was so tired and asking to go home because he wanted to sleep. It was 10:30pm.

Patiently waiting...

Finally the doctor from cubicle 5 called Jansen's name. Yayyy, it was our turn after some wait. As usual, the doctor asked us from A-Z again what had happened, had a look at his abdomen and she decided to have a blood test to rule out the possibility of dehydration. Okay.. means needle.. I was ready to comfort and hold onto Jansen's hand. He was so cooperative as in not pulling or moving his hands at all when the needle was poked in to withdraw blood. But crying all the time. Then, after withdrew blood, the doctor let the needle remained there for awhile, not taking it out. I was puzzled. She was searching for gauze and calling out another nurse, bla bla bla, blood had oozed out and it was not a nice sight, then finally it was changed into the setting of IV set. I was puzzled more.

Doctor explained since she already found the vein, needle was in, might as prepared for IV mode in case later blood test showed he was dehydrated and needed admission. (why didn't tell me earlier?)

Here, Jansen cried, because he just wanted to go home. so we took some time to comfort him with alot of smiles and putting positive face.

Then, next. Doctor asked us to walk to the other end to register for xray and then to walk further in to the xray room.

We needed to pass by this critical zone to access to xray room.

X-ray room

Since Jansen had no energy to stand, they chose the 'lying down' method for him to xray his abdomen.

Then, we walked back to the Pediatric Emergency and was asked to wait for blood test result.

Waited for 2 hours

Finally, the doctor called at 1am and said his blood test showed no dehydration and no admission was needed and I was to go home and diligently tubefeed feed him enough water, ORS and milk.

X-ray also showed no bowel swollen eventhough he had not poo for 3 days.

Doctor took some time to take out the cannula or something like that, I forgot the name while Jansen was whining because the gauze sticker was too sticky it pulled out all his hands' hair and was painful. Also he was extremely sleepy.

Bye to ER

I told him he was such a brave boy and mummy daddy were so proud of him. Asked him for a photo and he tried to so thumbs-up but finger too tired.

We reached at almost 2am. It was such an unpleasant journey at emergency room, I guess no one really likes hospital or admission or needles. Or bad report. But still, I am grateful for all the doctors and nurses. I really do not what to do without them. Salute them who needed to work round the clock and still going home to care for own family.

❤️Take care.

I was just reading this today! I am so sorry that little guy is having issues. It is scary not knowing what will be happening, I am sure. Sometimes, they forget to reassure along the way, making it more understandable.

I can see he is feeling better! That is great, Jade ❤️

Jansen is a brave little guy! This is a lot to go through for his short life already. Love and hugs!

Feel better, Jansen!

Thank you soooo much. Yes, he is a brave boy. He is well now and happy. Going to celebrate his 8th birthday. Doctor still hopes he grows fast. Now still at the size of 4 years old. But, yup - Slow and steady win to race. =)

Slow and steady wins the race. I lived near a set of fraternal twins about ten years ago. They were ten at the time, but, the size of six-year-olds. It was an endocrinological problem, and it was resolved with treatments when they were going through puberty. They are normal boys for their age now. Almost average. And very happy, but, then, they always were.

Happy birthday to Jansen!

Glad nothing serious was found and I hope he improves soon

That is a nice vibrant colored ER, but the process had you going back and forth so much

Thanks for joining Wednesday Walk :), I truly enjoy exploring the world virtually each Wednesday seeing walks from all around the globe and feeling I am there and experiencing it all myself, such as I did in your post just now :)

That's the thing about government hospital, huge and many departments. They let you exercise more by walking here and there to get things done. 😉 Jansen is alright by today. It had been tiring 7 days and finally, he is well. Thank you for wednesdaywalk challenge.

thats great news he is feeling better today :)

Tight hugs, momma! While the process is very tedious physically, I guess it must me the mental torture that hurts more - - while waiting for the result, constantly praying that everything will turn out okay.

What a brave and strong boy Jansen is! Glad the results turned out okay. ❤️

You said it right, the mental torture. Glad that everything was alright. And also, by today, Jansen is well already. Tiring past 7 days. Now everyone is gaining back strength and especially him, who needs to gradually eats more. He had slimmed down alot. Thank you, @arrliinn for dropping by.

O my… what an adventure. Sorry to hear about the troubles. It must have been scary. And the long wait.

I'm glad the little fellow wasn't seriously ill. Emergency room visits are never any fun, and always so much waiting. I am sure you were all very ready to go to bed!
