Wednesday Walk - At the End of Day in Point Waterfront, Durban.

in Wednesday Walk2 years ago

This post is for the #wednesdaywalk challenge and the #makemesmile challenge collaboration. This collaboration initially took place once a month, but due to its popularity, @tattoodjay (of the #wednesdaywalk) and @elizacheng (of #makemesmile) decided to make it a weekly thing.

If you want to know more about the rules, visit this week's post by @tattoodjay where you will find all the rules at the bottom of his post after you've enjoyed his beautiful photos from his walk.

The past two weeks have been extremely busy for me and it will continue like this until the end of this coming weekend.

I just had a lot to attend to (offline). It's not a bad thing, as a lot of the activities also involved my family. This coming weekend, we will be on the road since early Friday morning, leaving for Johannesburg (about a 6-hour drive on average), doing quite a bit of traveling up there, and returning again on Sunday.

So, with that in mind, I really enjoyed our walk over the past weekend...on Sunday to be exact.

I wanted to experiment with taking photos a little later in the day.

The idea was to go for a nice walk in Point Waterfront in Durban, but being a bit early, we first headed up north towards the Virginia Airport.

Standing on the little beach behind the airport, I took this photo of the city of Durban, looking at it over the ocean, being about halfway to Umhlanga Rocks.

We spent some time there, just relaxing and strolling around on the beach, before leaving for Durban.

We were hoping to get access to the Point Waterfront, as it was a long weekend here in South Africa. Normally over long weekends and during holiday seasons, the Durban beaches are extremely crowded.

But Point Beach and the Waterfront normally remain "bearable". It also gets busy, but in comparison with the main beaches, you can almost call it "quiet"...lol.

We found nice parking just above the canals (of which I shared some photos recently).

We took a walk through the "canal area", walking towards to promenade where Point Beach and Ushaka Beach meet.

As expected, we barely entered the canal area, when we saw the first little gondola boat slowly come cruising by. Although we still had some daylight, it was getting darker and I was hoping for the best, taking these photos... But this was the whole idea of this walk.

By now, most of the little paddle boats were back.

We left the canal area, on our way to the promenade, just to the side of Ushaka Marine World.

On our way there, we found this massive anchor, decorating the lawn alongside the walkway. By now I had to start using the camera's flashlight.

Getting to the promenade I took these two photos of the little coffee shop right at the end of the pier. You enter from the pier, and then go up to the coffee shop using stairs.

Looking up north, towards the city, I took this photo of the city of Durban as the day was coming to an end.

As I turned around, I saw these clouds appearing behind the buildings against the dark sky and I thought it would make a nice photo.

And that's it for today, folks!

Yes, it's a lot of driving that's waiting for us. I'm trying to get as much rest as I can at the moment...I don't want to start the journey being tired...lol.
