#Wednesday Walk - Enjoying the Fresh Air and Being Out in Nature.

This post is for the #wednesdaywalk challenge and the #makemesmile challenge collaboration. This collaboration initially took place once a month, but due to its popularity, @tattoodjay (of the #wednesdaywalk) and @elizacheng (of #makemesmile) decided to make it a weekly thing.

If you want to know more about the rules, visit this post by @tattoodjay where you will find all the rules at the bottom of his post after you've enjoyed his beautiful photos from his walk.

On Sunday afternoon, we had beautiful sunny weather...the ideal weather for a nice walk.

We also decided it would be nice to take our dog out for a walk with us.

I thought it would be nice to go for a walk in the nature reserve in the Everton Gorge. It is a beautiful area and traveling from Everton towards Waterfall, you drive through the nature reserve.

A typical view of the road ahead of you while driving through the nature reserve.

DSC_4879.jpg

There are signs up along the road to remind motorists to slow down and take care as there are wild animals roaming free in the reserve and often cross the road.

DSC_4881-3.jpg

The only frustrating element to be found in this area is the human element...

Some people love taking this route as a shortcut between Everton and Waterfall and drive through this area as if something is chasing them. This is irrespective of multiple warnings along the road to slow down and the road being so narrow in some areas that two vehicles can barely pass in opposite directions at the same time (as can be seen in the next photo). It is common to frequently pull over to let oncoming traffic pass before carrying on along the route.

DSC_4882.jpg

About halfway through the reserve, there are some hiking trails. There is enough space for some cars to park here. So, you can leave your vehicle here and go for a nice hike, which was what I had planned.

But what I didn’t keep in mind, was that we would not be allowed to take our dog along on this hiking trail. In all honesty, I didn't give this any thought, as we often drive through this area, but this was the first time that we actually wanted to get out to walk one of the hiking trails here.

DSC_4883.jpg

As you can see in the photo above, it would be a 3 KM hike through the forest to the Everton Waterfall.

My wife insisted that I go out to at least get some photos while she would be strolling around with our dog in the area of the car.

Although I knew she would be safe having the dog with her, I was still not fully comfortable with leaving them behind for too long. Besides, when I go out on a walk alone, I know I’m alone and I go wherever I want and as far as I want. But when we go out together, the whole point of it is for us both to enjoy it together and share in the fun of whatever we do.

Eventually, I agreed on getting some photos...but remaining close enough to hear when she would be calling out and not for too long either...

The next photo, shows the trail leaving the road and moving toward the forest. These hiking trails are also popular among joggers.

DSC_4886-2.jpg

Then you enter the forest area...

DSC_4892.jpg

Not too far in, you have the option to carry on straight or cross the little stream (Molweni River) to the opposite side.

DSC_4894.jpg

I went back to check on Elmarie and Arrow (my wife and our dog). They were still fine, having a ball with Arrow exploring the terrain around the car...

I then entered another hiking trail on the opposite side of the road, leading in the opposite direction.

DSC_4910.jpg

DSC_4911.jpg

DSC_4915.jpg

I went back to Elmarie at the car, and I had a new suggestion...

We were not too far away from the venue where our oldest daughter got married back in 2014. The venue where they got married is called Camelot. It is located in a golf estate and the venue building look like a castle from the era of Camelot.

We had arrangements to visit our daughter after our outing, and with time running out, I thought I would just take some photos outside Camelot. But guess what...? Camelot has just gone onto our to-do list to get some photos of the venue in the near future.

But for now...

Approaching the last bend before turning towards Camelot...

DSC_4925-2.jpg

DSC_4927.jpg

The road leads to the Camelot Estate. The entrance is at the end of the road, but I pulled over instead of entering the estate. Entering through the gate that can be seen in the photo below, will take you to the venue where the castle can be found, and you can also get access to the golf course from here.

DSC_4930.jpg

Before entering Camelot, you find Hathaway Village on the left. I took this photo of the entrance to the Hathaway Village.

DSC_4928.jpg

A nice, colorful scene next to the Hathaway Village entrance...

DSC_4932.jpg

Looking back up the road...the route we would be following out again.

DSC_4931.jpg

And that was our outing for the day, folks.

Thank you for reading my post. I do appreciate it!

Such a beautiful walk @jacoalberts 😊👋🏻 The greens, so much nature there.
Always nice to go together, but I know what you mean. You want both to enjoy… and you wouldn’t go to far.
Crazy that people would drive fast through there. Such a shame…

That’s a nice place you went to after.
Thanks for sharing this walk with us. I truly enjoyed the nature around you.
Have a good night and enjoy your Thursday 👋🏻😊☀️🌺

Thank you, @littlebee4! Yes, we are really blessed with a lot of nature around us and a lot of green scenery!

Yes, what is the sense of going together if we cannot enjoy it together...right?

If people want to drive fast, they should remain on the roads suitable for driving faster...although I get the impression that these people are so caught up in rushing around wherever they go, I don't think they even realize they should slow down when driving through these areas...

I'm glad you enjoyed the place we went to after and the nature we have around us😉👍!

You must also have a wonderful Thursday🙏👍!

You are welcome @jacoalberts 👋🏻😊 it’s just wonderful to be surrounded by so much nature. Next month I move to a country with real wild nature (left) can’t wait to explore and tell you all about it 🤓😉
I will move as close as possible to or even in it.

Exactly, going together is enjoying together.

I think you might be right there. Some are so rushed in their lives, they don’t even realise sometimes.

Happy to see it my friend. Seeing what you saw and experience it.
Thank you so much 😊 have a wonderful evening.
Sorry have been quite a bit since yesterday was having a bad migraine. But it is better now and I try to catch up a bit.
Almost weekend 😉☀️🌺👋🏻

Wow! Do I understand you correctly...? Are you moving again? It sounds exciting though!! Getting as close as possible to real wild nature! That sounds awesome🙏! I can't wait to hear more about it👍!

Ouch! Migraine...that's really bad! I'm just glad you are feeling better now! As you say...almost weekend! Maybe you can take it a little easy then...

But whatever you do, enjoy your weekend and take care of your yourself, @littlebee4👍!

Yep hahahaha 🤣😂 I am moving again 😎🤓 our plan we had for a year now changed. First we would have relocated to the US. But due to company take overs that plan changed. Fully… like 180 degrees.
So now a new plan was formed in the last weeks. And I booked flights for the 19th December. We leave Spain 🇪🇸
I will tell soon all about it ☺️😉 it will have proper 4 seasons 🤓 so maybe even snow when we arrive ☃️❄️ We will see…
Working a bit more on the planning and logistics.

Thank you kindly. It wasn’t fun. Today is again much better. So will rest further also in the weekend. 😉
I will do that @jacoalberts 👋🏻 Thanks!
Have a wonderful weekend too. Enjoy it all.

Wow! I thought you would still be settling in and here you are...moving again😅! Sorry to hear about the change of plans though... But yes, things don't always work out the way we plan, do they? But I'm glad to see you guys do not allow this to upset you and you are already making the best of what is available and possible for you...seeing new opportunities! That's awesome! I'm looking forward to hearing more about it when you are ready👍! It sounds exciting.

Enjoy a peaceful weekend, @littlebee4😉👍!

Nope, I never unpacked… about 80% is still packed so this time not a lot to pack in boxes. We knew it wouldn’t be for a long time.
Indeed things and life can change quickly and we can do our best to adjust to it, and make the best out of it/ make it work. 😊
Thanks @jacoalberts 😎
New opportunities and new adventures… are right around the corner 🤩😉🤓
It will be great! It is all exciting. Country number 6 for me. Coming right up.

Thank you, you do the same my friend 👋🏻☀️

a beautiful reserve so green and lush a shame people drive like idiots on the roads there

Thanks for joining the Wednesday Walk :)

The reserve is beautiful indeed. We were just talking about how people are getting so caught up in the rat race and rushing around and it's as if they become totally unaware of the beauty that is around them...missing out on so many things that money can't buy...

Lovely to see the roads winding through the valley again, beautiful drive through at a slow pace, people never listen.

Walks without one dog is becoming more tedious of late, the animals love the outing as much as we do.

As you say, slowly driving through the winding road, taking in everything along the way is part of the fun...part of relaxing and getting away from rushing around...yet, some people want to bring the race to these areas too...until there's an accident or some wildlife gets injured or even killed...

You are so right! The animals love the outing as much as we do... Although, in this case, with wildlife being around, I can understand it when I take that into account...

Too many vehicles for roads, many not designed to drive at speed, yet everyone wants that shortcut!

Going North to Durban freeway still down at Toti, going South freeway on return from Scottburgh still down, not sure how long it is going to take SANRAL to repair, lots of promises yet people despair trying to move around.

Driving using emergency lane has become problematic in many areas, small back roads now used become hazardous like the one you mentioned in content.

Our roads are in a shocking condition as you are pointing out here. My wife is working at Hillcrest Panel Beaters and it is scary to see how many vehicles are coming in with damage due to road conditions...and I'm talking about serious damage.

You need to have your eyes all over when you go out on the roads these days... You have to look and think for the other drivers around you and you have to navigate your route between potholes and cope with all kinds of bad road conditions.

As I heard a guy saying the other day... He said that in their area you know a driver is under the influence when he is driving in a straight line... A sober driver goes zig-zag to miss all the potholes...lol!

People are complaining everywhere, once had tar now full of holes, or once a good sand road now gutted and potholed.

South Africa is like a story book starting with "Once upon a time..."

Once upon a time... Hahaha... Well said! That is so true👍!!

what a nice soothing walk! it's the last picture that grabbed my attention the most, so quiet yet so lively!

Thank you for stopping by, @macchiata! And thank you for your feedback. It means a lot to me and I do appreciate it!

Yeah I have that same 'problem' with the human element too.

Incredible how they can just ignore all the warnings and then blame the animal when they hit it and damage their cars...

What a gorgeous place though and so lovely of your wife to let you go roaming about- even if only for awhile.

Camelot looks cool too! Really authentic Tudor style.
Love it and I look forward to seeing a bit more of Camelot one day if you get the chance to go back again.

That is so true!

Yes, my wife is very supportive of whatever I'm doing! I really do appreciate her!

We'll go back to Camelot as soon as possible!

I look forward to seeing those shots of Camelot in the future and say hi to Elmarie and Arrow for me and thank them both for allowing you to share your days with us! 😃

Hi, @chocolatescorpi! I will tell them you said hi and I will give them your message😄👍.

I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the day with us!

Wow, has it been a week since the last adventure? Time sure flies. What a lovely place to explore. Too bad you couldn't bring the dog with you. It's great to see more of the places you feature :) An advance happy weekend!
