Rain Dance Spring Flowers

Singing In A Gentle Breeze

After rain nature sings, flowers cheer up small bushes or tall stems a journey through with me enjoy what I can see around me at the moment.

Down in southern hemisphere serenading the middle of Spring, let me introduce you to some of these wonderful things called plants and goggas (South African for creepy crawly insects).

First is the Arum lily often seen in the wild close to water, brilliant white against green with yellow stamen. A plant close to my heart since this came from Dad's garden close on thirty years ago.

Also referred to as an African lily or Alter lily, now come in a variety of colours.

Sugar cane burning spreads black dust across the garden (pretty messy), mingled between the cane ash is the starry wild jasmine blown off the bush hanging over the wall called 'bird central', plenty depth in the bush to hideout till humans retreat from sight.

Even noticed a neat hole in the tree branch, wonder how that got there, perfect!

About Those Goggas

The millipedes are everywhere after the rains, big black ones, red ones swinging to and fro around the garden, into the home not the best when it comes to directions. Oh we call them shongololo the Zulu name "roll up" which is exactly what they do when touched.

4020-Millipede.JPG

Zululand Black Millipede (Doratogonus zuluensis)

Millipedes arrive in all colours after the rains with plenty vegetation on the ground from leaves dropped at end of winter spell.

Red and Black Millipede (Centrolobus annulatus)

This little guy I do not know, helped him off his back and he was good to go once again....

3983-Beetle.JPG

On wing or many legs insect life is abundant, keep looking you will see!

Bulbul giving direction to keep going from the tree above.

Hibiscus attracts the little sunbird, White-bellied sunbird teases you being small, loud and fast dancing from tree to tree from dawn to dusk, hibiscus being his favourite of all.

When day ends one can be rest assured, tomorrow nothing will look the same, similar but never the same with constant change in nature, keep walking exploring.

I can't say it often enough, you have got so beautiful flowers and birds down there - ours are nice, but yours are fascinating and gorgeous 😍

After a rain the rain worms come on the surface here, millipedes are quite seldom and I know only the black ones.

!BEER and !WINE and !PIZZA - perfect 😃

Birds and flowers in each region vary, you have interesting fauna and flora it is a game of patience I know, you find time is tough!

Kingfisher in lower branch just gobbled down a worm as we speak, breakfast sourced by sitting surveying movement in the lawn below.

Millipedes are fascinating found in most countries recycling as they move through damp undergrowth.

!PIZZA celebrate it's Friday 😅have a good one!

Yep, we have nice things here too, but the flowers in the neighbors garden are always more colorful 😁

The last time I saw a kingfisher is long ago.

I think I will be less online in the next days. I have taken next week off and want to make a few short trips, but I haven't made any plans yet.

Have a nice evening Joan 🌞

Peeping over the wall, well that does not work here as both sides removed trees and many plants being scared of snakes, perhaps they have not learned snakes like to lie in sunny spots on the lawn 😊

Now you see him again.... Wishing you a wonderful unplanned week, go have a good time!

Yep, but on the lawn you might see the snake much easier, as long as it's not a green snake 🤣🐍
This bird looks so cute with the big red beak 😍

Have a great weekend Joan 🌞

Most snakes are green, watch where you walk.... When you on gravel paths they more than likely blend in there too, watch where you walk! You do know I can walk on air when avoiding them!

Coffers keep spitting out ziltch nudder naught in tokens I have to go reassess a lot here! Have an awesome break from the normal work week.

Walking on air - cool 😉 I don't think we have any green snakes here ;)

I only hope the weather isn't too bad, but the best thing is to have a break from the stress, thank you so much 🤗

After rain nature sings

Funnily enough I said something similar in another post a few minutes ago well I used the word shines but sings is so much more apt

Love all the natural beauty you shared with us on this walk

Thanks for joining Wednesday Walk :), I truly enjoy exploring the world virtually each Wednesday seeing walks from all around the globe and feeling I am there and experiencing it all myself, such as I did in your post just now :)

Having had good rains so far this Spring one forgets times of drought in recent years.

Birds arriving in numbers now to nest and raise young, flowers in the garden are attracting variety in insects as well. Rain sure makes the world of a difference.

!BEER

As it gets warmer there its cooling down here

Have a great day and a !BEER

You have such lovely flowers in your area. That red millipede looks really scary though. 😨

Flowers are pretty, millipedes too, cleaning up rejuvenating the soil, the centipede is the one I avoid having a nasty sting. Have a lovely day @glecerioberto and thanks for visiting.

I am sure you live in a wonderful part of the world, but sheesh, even pictures of those bugs creeped me out!!!
I have two left feet and am tone deaf!!

Bugs are fine, the flies and mosquito freak me out. With two left feet and tone deaf wait till you turn a corner with snake slithering ahead...

Thanks for visiting, watch where you walk!

Iris through the oval walls, a beautiful 📸, loving the White-bellied sunbird having a chilling moment.

The millipede almost looks like... am sure you can guess 😃🙈

Iris is great stabilizer on the bank being clay type soil, plenty termites too! Sunbird dancing around from flower to flower is pretty picky, also blends into the tree being small.

With all the walking you do..., imagine all those legs to carry your through, no one would mess with you either in shielded outfit, think big!

The rain has brought you such a beautful spring, popping out everywhere. the Arum Lily is what we call a Calla Lilly here, they are so gorgeous in your garden. Insects come with the territory and the millipedes are not my favorite, I don't think I have ever seen a red one, but, they do roll up nicely don't they?

Oh, spring is in the air and I am so happy to see it showering down in flowers and nature (in general) upon South Africa!

Thank you for the loveliness!

Calla/Arum lily close to ponds in the wild make a beautiful sight, don't see them as often as we used to.

Millipede is on almost every continent, great at recycling old vegetation on the ground, USA has 1400 species of the 7000 estimated worldwide. Children do enjoy making them curl up to protect themselves, especially the large black ones.

Flowers have been smiling this year with rain arriving on time everything pops into life, have a wonderful day and thanks for visiting leaving a kind comment.

Ah yes those African goggas. Those shongalolos are all over the country! Your lily is beautiful Joan! I have a similar story of my "old" lily. It's amazing that it survives here. Considering it's origins in humid Imfolozi.

Western Cape is where the Arum lily is normally seen on dams growing wild, they now come in a variety of colours, a flower I have known since young. Lily will grow anywhere in Southern Africa wetlands.

Millipedes have come out in great numbers with all the rains, happy with them not with the centipedes that appear every so often as well.

Not in our corner of the Western Cape (Karoo) unless it's the farms right at the foot of the mountains. They have plenty of water and we sometimes pick the arums along the edge of the dams that feed off their waterfalls

Yup Lily tends to love water.

I remember dropping down from Oudtshoorn into George when the top was hot and dry in sunshine, drove through a blanket of cloud you could cut with a knife, down the pass into rain. Absolutely spectacular part of the country giving you the best of both!

Now that was a lovely walk. Your flowers are so beautiful. I just love the Spring when the wild flowers start popping, such a breathe of fresh air after the cold winter months.
Those centipedes are a little creepy though.
Great stuff Joan, thanks for sharing, have a lovely day.

Flowers have been spectacular this Spring with all the rain, have not noticed any mushrooms though this year.

Millipede is fun and harmless toxin to most humans, centipede is a different story much respect for them, as much as the snakes.

Thanks for visiting and lovely comment Robin.

How I love spring @joanstewart. You have a wonderful selection of flowers and little animals in your garden. How intriguing to see red and black millipedes, we do not have this in Queensland, probably only brown ones. If truth be told I don't see them around my place on the Sunshine Coast anyway.
Thank you for the little walk around your spring garden.

Normally I say our winter gardens have more colour, this year with rainfall at the right time of year the mix of flowers has been entertaining.

Many insects out, some not so familiar, conditions have been excellent bringing many millipedes this year.

Thanks for visiting and have a lovely weekend.

Spring has certainly sprung in your corner of the planet, Joan while we will be having much cooler weather. Lots of lovely flowers, insects and birds. I’ve never seen a red millipede. He looks pretty.

Millipede is very attractive, weather has been varied, yesterday hot today a lot cooler with rain again. Early rains have brought out so many different critters making life interesting in the garden.

That red millipede is so pretty (from afar ;p)

And that Hibiscus - that's our national flower ;D

Colourful flower we see in most gardens, a worthy national flower that keeps giving.

Oh what a beautiful walk there @joanstewart with all of that amazing and incredible looking nature you've got there!

I have never seen a red and black millipede before and what a vivid and stunning red it was.
It makes you want to make friends with it! lol...

I love the way that the Bulbul is directing traffic and the white belied Sunbird is waiting for his right of way!

what an entertaining and enlivening walk!

Thanks so much for sharing!

Appreciate you kind words of enjoyment, yes the garden offers a little of everything one just has to look.... and always carry the camera wherever you go. Have a beautiful day @chocolatescorpi

!PIZZA

Yes so true and that's one of the reasons why I enjoy all of the communities in Peaked so much- for the motivation to become so much more observant- in every direction, and I totally agree with having a camera with you everywhere you go!

Have a lovely week and I look forward to seeing more of your discoveries.

Beautiful photography...Love your style. Absolutely beautiful.
God bless you my dear friend @joanstewart.

Thanks for visiting @ykdesign

Wow, those red millipedes are quite stunning! I never expected to find a millipede attractive. Ha ha. That’s got to be really fun to find them in your house.

I would love to take a whiff of the star jasmine. I bet it’s highly fragrant!

During millipede season we try not to step on them, they do come indoors, get moved out but somehow tend to make up their minds as what they want....

Star jasmine has a gentle perfume compared to some in the flowering plants the garden which makes it pleasant for most the year round.
