A couple of weeks ago I have posted images of a beautiful mossy gorge called Wolfsschlucht / Wolfs Gorge. Last week I have been there again and today I want to give you some more information about this amazing place ... and more images, of course 😊

Just in case you wonder why I post to the Wednesday Walk community: I did this walk last Wednesday and haven't posted to JJ's community in quite a while 😉
The Wolfsschlucht / Wolfs Gorge is the nearly three-kilometer-long gorge of the Kasmüllerbach (Kasmüller brook) in Bad Kreuzen, district of Perg in the Lower Mühlviertel in Upper Austria.

Because I am more interested in photographing the gorgeous gorge I haven't hiked the complete circular path, which is about 4 kilometres long, but only the gorge up to the place called Damenbad / Ladie's Bath and then I went back down to the parking lot.
If you visit this place you should definitely do the whole round and then have a rest and a delicious meal at the inn Speckalm, which is a bit before the end of the circular path: http://www.speck-alm.at/ (German).

At the entrance to the gravel parking lot there are two signs informing you about the place, the path, what you're gonna see in the gorge and also where the above mentioned Speck-Alm is located.

The Greiner Duschen / Greiner Showers used to be next to the first bridge over the brook, where I have taken the above photo, and the Wiener-Wellen Bäder / Viennese Wave Baths were right above the waterfall.
Quite some steps lead up the gorge as you can see to the left of the brook in the photo above. These steps lead to the next place, which you can see in the photo below.

As already mentioned, quite some stone steps lead up the gorge. Take care after rainfalls, because then these steps might be slippery.

Past the Anton Bruckner Zuflucht / Anton Bruckner Refuge, narrow paths lead up to the Neptune Grotto. Here were the men's and women's showers. Further steps lead to the Herzogs-Quelle, from which you can also reach Burg Kreuzen / Castle Kreuzen on the left, and further to the right past the Damenbad / Ladie's Bath you will reach the Höhenweg, which you can follow to the left to the village or continue in the direction of Speck-Alm and the parking lot.

According to the teachings of the natural healer Vincenz Prießnitz, from the year 1846 on waterfalls in the Wolfsschlucht were converted into showers and natural pools into wave pools - the gorge was transformed into a healing gorge.

Of course, there are some places to have a rest during the partly steep hike and to enjoy the amazing views down into the gorge.

There have been numerous wooden buildings in this healing gorge, but only some foundations and post holes are left. Signs such as the Neptunsgrotte / Neptun's Grotto, Greiner Duschen / Greiner Showers or the Wiener-Wellen-Bäder / Viennese Wave Baths indicate the former use.

A few steps more lead up to the Herzogsquelle / Duke spring where you can decide where to go next.

From the Herzogsquelle / Duke Spring you can walk left to the Burg Kreuzen / Castle Kreuzen or right further up the gorge to the Damendusche / Ladie's Shower.

Ash, sycamore and sycamore elm have survived in the near-natural canyon forest thanks to the humid air and soil conditions, and the understory is formed by a lush layer of herbs.

Since 1997, an about 4.8 kilometre long, nature and culture trail has been leading through the gorge, which as mentioned above was used from the middle of the 19th century for bathing facilities by the former Kaltwasseranstalt Bad Kreuzen / Bad Kreuzen cold water sanatorium. The bathing facilities of the cold water sanatorium are described and illustrated using information boards on the way through the gorge.
In 2010 the path was awarded the Österreichische Wandergütesiegel / Austrian hiking seal of quality.

The information in this post was found on Wikipedia and on the website https://www.wolfsschlucht.at/, where you can find much more additional information (German).
The order of the photos corresponds to the path from the Greiner Duschen / Greiner Showers at the beginning to the Damenbad / Ladie's Bath, where I turned around and walked back down through the gorge in reverse.
All photos were taken with the Canon EOS R and one of these lenses: Canon RF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM, Canon RF 70-200mm f/4 L IS USM, Canon RF 100-400mm F5.6-8 IS USM, Canon EF 16-35mm 1:4 L IS USM, Canon EF 50mm 1:1.8 L STM, SIGMA 105mm 1:2,8 DG MACRO HSM.

I definitely did the tour with you, I was reading and looking, I saw the stairs, it is better to use them to go to a gorge, well, being careful when it rains as you say, I also see some signs that say the name of some places , the fact of being a medicinal place so to speak makes it more interesting.
I followed your steps just like a tour guide, I liked the tour, I even looked at some rocks and saw the shapes of animals hahaha, you know I have a lot of imagination, if you ask what I saw, I saw a frog and other animals :)
I also see sometimes animals in rocks (or clouds) and always forget to take a photo to ask other people if they see the same 😉
I wonder how this place must have looked like when it actually was used as a sanatorium. Maybe I can find some paintings or even photos.

A Healing Gorge…sounds wonderful. I would like to jump right in. 😆
