Hi all šŸ‘‹šŸ»

58cc0edb_b9ee_4c86_872b_a605f764fb4d.jpeg

With this post Iā€™m joining in at the Wednesday Walk challenge and Make me Smile challenge. That are hosted by @tattoodjay and @elizacheng every week on Wednesday. Have a look: Here in the Wednesday Walk Community!

Today I want to share with you my Walk, with a few members of the Iznajar walking group, around the IznƔjar Dam and through the pine forest, Cordoba province, Spain.

PRESA DE IZNƁJAR y PANTANO DE IZNƁJAR.
I lived in the countryside of IznĆ”jar at that timeā€¦

We walked it 29 March 2015 and it was about 4km.
Photos are taken with my (late) Canon eos 550D and 18-135mm lens.

I will guide you through these photos as I follow the time stamps. So you can walk along and explore this area with me šŸ˜Š

Location of the start of this walk on Google Maps: The pink heart šŸ’–

As you can see the town of IznƔjar is across the lake.

The walking route:

We started at the green dot and finished at the red dot, last part of the route overlaps for about 800 meters

After we parked our cars we start walking along the road for a little while. The Pine Forest appears now on both sides.

428cedae_cdab_420c_9eaf_df9f44183dfa.jpeg
We see pine cones on the ground next to us.

We pass by at closed gates from a restaurant.

Along the fence we see farm tools from days gone byā€¦

My friends from the IznƔjar walking group I walked this walk with, on a beautiful sunny day in late March. The tall man (Peter) on the right was my landlord. He still lives in the large old mill and I lived in the little casita on his grounds, where the mill worker used to live, long ago of course. A walk around the casita you can find here: Photographs from around the Casita, wildlife and wild orchids, IznƔjar Spain

As we walked a bit now, we see through the trees the lake appearing. The beautiful turquoise waters.

Letā€™s try and walk down towards the lake.

Some details on the lakeside.

The view we have. The land and pine forest you see on the left we walked through to get here.

Across the lake where we are standing. Olive trees everywhere and some farm houses.

Letā€™s walk a little along the water front.

The view across the IznƔjar lake.
I see somethingā€¦ in the far distance.
Letā€™s zoom in.

0143fef8_96c9_41a5_8ea6_8d6409abbcc9.jpeg
Yes, thought I saw the village of IznĆ”jar itself in the distance. It is perched on top of the mountain you see here in the middle. The highest point is the castle. The layers are just amazingā€¦ and then you see the town šŸ„°

5faf8e63_bbf4_497f_a626_91a2a5a4e306.jpeg
We walk further until I spot this tree.

86beb490_1cdb_4f4e_9a86_ea6edb38eb35.jpeg
As I walk towards it, closely I got an idea!

A little bit furtherā€¦ šŸ˜ŽšŸ¤“
721d9d7a_5b2a_429e_8f74_b2fa29189384.jpeg
Yes, I captured the town of IznƔjar in between the branches of this tree.

We walk back up a little into the forest again, and reach sandy paths. We follow it.
df5bee0e_4b1d_4cb5_a1e2_3c03eaddac77.jpeg
We find abandoned wooden recreation hutsā€¦ between the trees. They still look rather good.

Some closer by views.

187873ce_10f1_454b_b12c_4774d1f53d2c.jpeg

We walk further as the forest is around us.
ab8ce534_d8ab_4bae_8a73_2597f2568183.jpeg

A little bit later we see the lake again and a long road down with a little pier.
981a16ba_d864_4010_8234_5d82b67e5756.jpeg

I followed it down and saw this fisherman just catching a fish.

91f1d264_4036_4166_b612_a3941324dd99.jpeg
Thatā€™s a great catch šŸŽ£
We talked a little when my friends arrived too, and he showed us the fish.

After a climb up again towards our path we followed.
We see residential houses high above us in the woods.
9b74ecad_5035_4680_b86d_332cb7045713.jpeg

From there we have this lake view.
4291aa2f_fa49_4daf_9db5_685503dad15d.jpeg
With lots of layers of mountains and hills in the distance.

We reach a large gate now. It is closed, but you can walk around it if you are careful.

At the end there:
14af3031_a8f1_4858_bf7b_85e3a5fe3654.jpeg

Now there is a nice road we follow, not much people around anymoreā€¦ just us and nature.
ed40d7fb_8993_46ca_b2a9_a7d9900f22b4.jpeg
My friends. Peter spotted a look out/ view point.

dc1a5c26_b3d5_431d_aef7_b9a16c704db1.jpeg
I was distracted hahaha šŸ¤£ next to me a tree stump. The bark is strangely peeled.
Of course I had to stop and photograph this.

e7ced681_28d3_48e7_97cd_c6734b4109d6.jpeg
And letā€™s not forget the flowers that are popping up next to the roadā€¦ šŸ˜ŠšŸŒøšŸŒ¼

16a6833a_3904_4334_9421_e51697cd5be9.jpeg
When I arrived at the view point Peter was waiting, we see the lake. It looks like it is divided. Or rainā€¦ but it didnā€™t rain.
We see a very smooth surface on one side of the lake, and the other part is choppy and rough. Makes for a very interesting photo, donā€™t you think?

Letā€™s walk further on the road.
9daa0acf_f4c7_448e_8db1_f7d4678fde9f.jpeg
Next to us some walls appear. And gates, but there is nothing behind themā€¦

3535a5b8_3387_4dcc_985e_b925c8029b73.jpeg
Detailsā€¦ šŸ˜Ž have I told you I love details and textures yet, Iā€™m sure I did šŸ˜‡

We walk furtherā€¦

8077f25c_d1ed_4ff5_a55a_5695738f5fc6.jpeg
On the left side a balustradeā€¦ that follows us from now onwards along the road.

97e385d9_085a_40c0_a577_0f6b238ba3b5.jpeg
I find another interesting tree stump.

48467826_55f7_4dec_b8d4_6cf6f067b8cc.jpeg
And flowers šŸŒø šŸŒøšŸŒø

c28dd273_2dce_4de2_a2a5_2dcfe598b6e9.jpeg
Letā€™s look closer šŸ„°šŸŒø

c6f0f9c3_04ee_4024_89fc_b821b763dac5.jpeg
I found some purple flowers šŸ’œ my favourite colour.

As we walk furtherā€¦
dc13f2ad_bfab_490f_87c8_3e49824f328c.jpeg
More steps that go nowhereā€¦

c7e16172_e6c6_4495_8dca_2b827add8a66.jpeg
Do I see some kind of transporting rails?
Going up the hillā€¦

c23e8b30_6ef1_446a_b180_6e6e22516dab.jpeg
And more steps along the railsā€¦

332f58e1_6e77_4edb_9712_084186e8f510.jpeg
When I look back you see the steps and rails going up the hill. People must have transported goods like that up and downā€¦ hhhmmmm interesting šŸ¤”

ARE YOU STILL WITH ME? šŸ˜‰

You must think by now where is the dam?

Let me show you what is next on our path:
454d1cfd_fa89_4c3a_8a65_afbaacb1e71c.jpeg
Through the trees we see the IZNAJAR DAM

Letā€™s walk further, and have a closer look.
2782e523_5556_429e_8b46_05f3d955c87f.jpeg

We see also a platform floatingā€¦ must be fun in the summer to swim there and play aroundā€¦ šŸŠšŸ»šŸŠšŸ»ā€ā™€ļø

The Dam on one sideā€¦

Another view point, letā€™s go there and see if we can see more of the Dam.

The other side of the dam. Goes down quite a bit.
Noā€¦ Iā€™m not too close at the edge. I donā€™t fancy heights hahaha

364729a7_6748_4331_af70_a59711d3df8e.jpeg
I zoom in on my camera, that will do šŸ˜Ž

05d8210f_8bc4_43c6_9d03_79fca62be8f8.jpeg
Next to us a little further we see this Pillar.
Peter tells me when the dam was build and the land was flooded, ā€œFrancoā€ came here and held a speech. This was the area he gathered and spoke to the people of the surrounding towns.
He also told me, Franco had a holiday home here, just where we walked in the woods. He didnā€™t know which one thoughā€¦

48067a7d_fd4a_45bf_8a30_1eab8069af3e.jpeg
When we look up from this spot we see some ruins and a tower up on the mountain.

The views on this side of the dam:
42b09fe3_e8f2_411a_90d0_481f429c8dcb.jpeg

So many olive fieldsā€¦

288f1d7c_685a_4e61_ba3f_eea557bd29c8.jpeg
Beautifulā€¦ the landscape is unique.

Below we see:

More ruins.

16e58d89_146b_4cfd_bd3c_941ec077effc.jpeg
Zooming inā€¦ all abandoned.

One look up:
be0eccd5_f6d6_4ff3_90bc_006d39417793.jpeg

Now we walk back again.
I show you a few views from this side as it does look so different each way.

The pillar. With views across the lake in the distance.

At the edgeā€¦ we see in the distance the spot we started our walk.

Next to that light sandy/ beach area.
2b388d4d_ed47_4358_8681_3f4252837b4a.jpeg

More flowers, I didnā€™t see the first time šŸ˜Š

a79e54e4_2be7_4744_beb9_a75479fbe172.jpeg
Havenā€™t seen these bell like flowers beforeā€¦

ddba36fc_b4bb_4ffd_a5ba_cbc065c703cb.jpeg

Past the gate and almost back at the dense pine forest I see a few more houses.
Looks like nobody is living there at this time.

And with this last photo of this terrace from one of the houses here, I finish our walk and end my #WednesdayWalk and #Makemesmileā€¦ post.

Beautiful pictures.... Such a great walk you had

Thank you so much @ehizgabriel šŸ˜Š for stopping by.
It surely wasā€¦ love walking around that area as it is always quiet and not much people visit it.

Excellent photography from your 2015 trip to Spain!šŸ“· There are so many images high quality my phone could hardly load and scroll to the end to commentāš–āœ I finally made it though!šŸ˜€

For a moment I thought these were from your honeymoon pictures! šŸ‘°šŸ’šŸ¤µ

Congratulations on your well deserved upvotes! @littlebee4šŸ†šŸ’ÆšŸ’°

Thank you so much for your lovely words and for your efforts to get all the way to the end šŸ„° @ninahaskin

This was just after I moved to Spainā€¦ still living here.
My wedding post plus the explorations we had for several days in Gibraltar (small country against Spain where we got married) I will post soon. I wanted to include a few professional photographs from us in there. But I have to wait until I get them. Hopefully end of next week. Iā€™m a bit impatient about that hahaha normally I am sooooo the opposite.

Thanks again for you support, much appreciated. šŸ˜ŠšŸ„³ā˜€ļø
Have a lovely day!

Everything looks so cool, yet abandoned. Is there any reason? Why's nobody living in those awesome huts?

Thank you so much @mrprofessor šŸ˜Ž

Yes there is a reason. A few actually. This is inland of Spain. Even 1 hour drive inland from the coastal areas are like this. The countrysideā€¦ people have to move out of, abandon the areas for work in the bigger cities and coast areas. Also the population is getting older. So the older people can not upkeep certain areas. The young ones are gone for work reasons. No one wants to move to the ā€œdying areasā€

The percentage of people without work is sooooo high in Spain. Especially for the younger generations.

Makes sense. I think the same happens in some parts of Italy as well, where they sell houses for 1 Euro. Looks like quite an opportunity to live the dream life.

Probably in Italy too.

Yes, it isā€¦ especially if you donā€™t need to go somewhere to work. And could work from home. This means you can live anywhere in the world you want. With some exceptions of course.

As this happens in many many other countries too. Even France and Italy.

The color of the water the breathtaking scenery is so beautiful there, such a lovely walk and I love you not only share the cool views but focus in on all the cool details along the way

Thanks for joining Wednesday Walk :), I truly enjoy exploring the world virtually each Wednesday seeing walks from all around the globe and feeling I am there and experiencing it all myself, such as I did in your post just now :)

Thank you so much @tattoodjay šŸ˜Š
It is stunning up there. It is about 1 hour drive above MƔlaga city, inland. A total different world than along the coast. I like it more up there in the nature. But work is not up there. So we are along the coast close to Gibraltar.
I just love everything I see around me, all the intricate details.

Thank you, Iā€™m happy to be here and share šŸ˜Š
Have a wonderful day!

I to love getting out and being with nature

My wife used to work in Gibraltar and lived in Cadiz just across from Gibraltar I forget the name of the city

My husband works in Gibraltar and has 4 times a week a 1 hour drive to work and back again.
It could be Algeciras. That is across Gibraltar.

Last Friday I got married in Gibraltar. Will post soon a post about it when I get our professional photos back to include a few. We stayed 3 nights and explored Gib. Of course my husband knows it well as he works there for the last 14 years. But this was different šŸ˜Ž

I think she lived in a place called La LĆnea de la Concepcion she is still sleeping so I canā€™t ask her now

Congratulations on your wedding

Yes, I know it. La Linea is the other side. We drive through it once in awhile.
Donā€™t wake herā€¦ šŸ˜“ ssshhhh šŸ¤« hahahaha

Thank you kindly @tattoodjay šŸ˜ŠšŸ˜

Lol she is awake now and I was right
I guess Iā€™m not so old my memory isnā€™t failing me lol

I looked again and saw the town of IznƔjar in between the branches of the tree.
So many interesting things!
Thanks for showing us, @littlebee4!

Thank you @silversaver888 šŸ„°šŸ‘‹šŸ»
It was a cool find I thought to capture it like that šŸ˜Ž

You are welcome šŸ¤—
Have a wonderful day and weekend ā˜€ļø
We are leaving early tomorrow morning for Madrid. We go with the AVE a high velocity train. 3 hour journey. My first time on it šŸ˜
I have to pick up my new passport (had to renew it) at the embassy.
We stay until Tuesday evening. Will try to document our adventure šŸ¤“

High velocity train... cool šŸ˜Ž ! I haven't had the experience eitheršŸ˜ !
I wonder how fast it is and if you can take photos still šŸ¤”?
Hmmm... my passport is still good, and I can travel anytime I wantšŸ¤—.
How do you keep your saved photos?

Yesā€¦ it will be cool šŸ˜Ž
Now Iā€™m going to sleep and get up in 7 hoursā€¦ to start our journey šŸ˜Š
Will ask tomorrow how fast we go, would like to know too. Will have to try and see if I can photograph. In the train for sure and on the stations. Outside of the window I ā€˜m not sure.
Exciting šŸ¤©

As my DSLR camera died during our last trip abroad, to Cuba October 2019. I take all photos now with my iPhone. I upload them automatically to iCloud. At home they go onto an external hard drive.
Where I categorize them.

Have a good evening @silversaver888
