After a few weeks away, I'm finally able to complete a larger post, and I'm thrilled this one is the chosen to do so, #wednesdaywalk (hosted by @tattoodjay ) is without a doubt one of the coolest initiatives I follow (or try to) so, taking you guys with me in this walk is extra special. A few weeks back I decided to make an effort to go to some beautiful places my city has to offer, many of which I'd be visiting for the first time. I've been living my whole life in the same city, only moving a little further after getting married, but, truth is, there are way too many places I haven't visited. The first thing we usually do when traveling is go to the most attractive scenarios of our destination, so I figured it was only logical to do the same thing in the place we live in.
Después de unas semanas de ausencia, por fin puedo completar un post más largo, y estoy encantada de que este sea el elegido para hacerlo, #wednesdaywalk (organizado por @tattoodjay ) es sin duda una de las iniciativas más geniales que sigo (o intento) así que, llevarlos conmigo en este paseo es extra especial. Hace unas semanas decidí hacer un esfuerzo por recorrer algunos lugares hermosos que ofrece mi ciudad, muchos de los cuales visitaría por primera vez. He vivido toda mi vida en la misma ciudad, sólo me he mudado un poco más allá después de casarme, pero, la verdad, hay demasiados lugares que no he visitado. Lo primero que solemos hacer cuando viajamos es ir a los escenarios más atractivos de nuestro destino, así que pensé que era lógico hacer lo mismo en el lugar en el que vivo.
Caracas, Venezuela is a chaotic yet beautiful city, as I guess, all main cities are. There are so many places where the contrast between concrete and vegetation is so splendid that it's completely worth the struggle to get there.
That is the case here at "El Calvario". There are a couple of ways to get to the Ezequiel Zamora's park, for either of them you need to lace up and prepare for some cardio workout. Whether you decide to go up a very steep set of 90 steps or walk through some pathways, which are a bit longer, but a bit lighter for those a bit "out of shape". I didn't know there were other ways to go up so, I did the main stairs, often I've seen people working out there going up and down, and to those I admire! That way up is hard but, once I got up and looked down, WOW! Felt like I was on top of the world.
Caracas, Venezuela, es una ciudad caótica pero hermosa, como supongo que lo son todas las ciudades principales. Hay tantos lugares en los que el contraste entre el concreto y la vegetación es tan espléndido que merece totalmente la pena el esfuerzo para llegar a ellos.Este es el caso de "El Calvario". Hay un par de maneras de llegar al parque Ezequiel Zamora, para cualquiera de ellas hay que atarse las trenzas y prepararse para un poco de ejercicio cardiovascular. Ya sea que decidas subir un conjunto muy empinado de 90 escalones o caminar por algunos senderos, que son un poco más largos, pero un poco más ligeros para aquellos un poco "fuera de forma". Yo no sabía que había otras formas de subir así que, fui por la escalera principal en la que muchas veces he visto a gente haciendo ejercicio allí, subiendo y bajando, y a esos como los admiro! Ese camino de subida es duro pero, una vez que subí y miré hacia abajo, WOW! Me sentí como si estuviera en la cima del mundo.
Definitely, stairs are a thing in this park, and it's considered the first urban park and botanical garden created in the country.
Definitivamente, las escaleras son un tema en este parque, y se considera el primer parque urbano y jardín botánico creado en el país.
Was recovered in 2010, after long years of abandonment, I think it's one of the few good things the current government has done, dedicating a bit of time and resources to the amazing scenery the city has to offer that had been neglected for quite a while.
Fue recuperado en 2010, después de largos años de abandono, creo que es una de las pocas cosas buenas que ha hecho el actual gobierno, dedicando un poco de tiempo y recursos a los increíbles paisajes que ofrece la ciudad y que habían sido descuidados durante bastante tiempo.
The first view once I got up there was this amazing square or piazza if you may, surrounded by green trees and a cute fountain in the middle, let me tell you, the weather was amazingly good, even after going up all those steps, blue skies, a cool wind blowing and the sun shining beautifully, it felt nice, besides the ambiance is of total calm, I do not meditate but if I ever decide to start, I'd definitely go there to do so, 100% peaceful.
La primera vista una vez que llegué allí fue esta increíble plaza o plazoleta si se quiere, rodeada de árboles y una bonita fuente en el centro, déjenme decirles que el tiempo era increíblemente bueno, incluso después de subir todas esas escaleras, el cielo azul, un viento fresco soplando y el sol brillando maravillosamente, se sentía realmente agradable, además el ambiente es de total calma, yo nunca he hecho meditación pero si alguna vez decido empezar, definitivamente iría allí a hacerlo, 100% paz.
The views continued to amaze me, the fact that there's such a beautiful corner in such hectic city is really comforting, also, knowing that even though that part of the city is a bit dangerous, i didn't once felt like i was unsafe, the few people there were minding their own business and also there was some police around, which sadly here isn't security at all.
Las vistas no dejan de sorprenderme, el hecho de que haya un rincón tan bonito en una ciudad tan ajetreada es realmente reconfortante, además, sabiendo que aunque esa parte de la ciudad es un poco peligrosa, no me sentí ni una sola vez así, la poca gente que había se ocupaba de sus asuntos y además había algo de policía alrededor, lo que tristemente aquí no es seguridad en absoluto.
Many statues make homage to both national and worldwide "personalities" being the most emblematic The pedestrian statue of Simón Bolívar, built in 1920 and placed in the highest part of the park. There are also statues of Miguel de Cervantes, Teresa Carreño (one of the world's foremost pianists and composers), an one called "The woman of El Calvario" that makes an allusion to urban legends of a woman who appears in the park to lonely visitors, built in 1986.
Numerosas estatuas rinden homenaje a "personalidades" tanto nacionales como mundiales siendo la más emblemática La estatua pedestre de Simón Bolívar, construida en 1920 y situada en la parte más alta del parque. También hay estatuas de Miguel de Cervantes, Teresa Carreño (una de las pianistas y compositoras más importantes del mundo), una llamada "La mujer de El Calvario" que hace alusión a las leyendas urbanas de una mujer que se aparece en el parque a los visitantes solitarios, construida en 1986.
The only thing I regret about this walk was doing it alone, there are so many beautiful spaces and views to snap a shot or two, although I'm not really good at selfies, but, I did my best.
Lo único que lamento de este paseo fue hacerlo sola, hay tantos espacios y vistas hermosas para tomar una o dos fotos, que aunque no soy muy buena para las selfies, hice lo que pude.
