Wednesday Walking the Aspen Trail

PXL_20221123_134210998_edited.jpeg

For this week's #wednesdaywalk, as inspired by @tattoodjay, I headed up the bluff for a morning hike. With a long weekend planned in the greater Chicago area for Thanksgiving, I knew my body needed a quick "up and down" the bluff to get the heart geared up. As well as burn a few calories to get prepped for tomorrow's festivities!

The trail was dedicated to a local naturalist, Jed Huff. I did a little bit of research on Jed Huff online; it turns out he was advocate for spending more time with family and friends and focusing less on materialism and consumerism. A true Gnostic, from the sound of it...unfortunately, he passed while mountain biking in Boulder, Colorado.

How nice it is to find information on him...I'll think of him and his life cause every time I hike this trail.

I also found couple of cool items to photograph. There were the turkey tails...

A woodpeckers work leftover...

And the remnants of an old tree...standing guard just feet off of the old trail.

What a beautiful morning to take advantage of mild weather. The day off from work paid of handsomely! This walk, and learning about the trail's tribute, was certainly more rewarding than booking debits and credits today. Maybe that's a sign...just maybe...

The new Merrill shoes worked out well, too!

Thanks for checking out my #wednesdaywalk share! I hope everyone had a wonderful Wednesday too...and if you celebrating tomorrow, Happy Thanksgiving to all! With some luck, I might need to get another walk in tomorrow just to ease tomorrow's diet.

Now that's a place to be able to take a hike! Awesome!

A brief 40 minutes from top to bottom and back - who needs a stairmaster???

Looks a beautiful trail
Jeff sounds like a guy I would have liked great they named the trail after him

Thanks for joining the Wednesday Walk :)

I have to say, it's been fun finding these little bits of history and memories (long forgotten to some, I'm sure) on these walks.

That's one place I miss hiking- Aspen!!!

I loved hiking all over there...ohhh sigh...

Well, this isn't quite Aspen, unfortunately (just the trail name), but this area isn't too shabby in itself!

Oh wow, ok isn't it funny that it's the Aspen trail but not near Aspen...But it looks like it could be near Aspen...

Either way, it looks like a gorgeous place to be anyway!

It must be a nice cold trail to go hike this season.

it's not bad! You get a little sweaty with all the extra clothes, but layers help!
