Which way should I go?

IMG_20210422_162204.jpg

Which way should I go for this walk I'm going to show you today?

I do not like such so-called crossroads (although this is not exactly a crossroads). When such a fork in the road is reached, one must make a decision about where to proceed. And if he is only visiting that city for a short time, or just once, he can often only go one way, and that means he won't have a chance to see what lies in the other direction.
It's the same in life, isn't it? If you choose something (and life is full of choices and forks) you will inevitably miss something else.

IMG_20210422_162549.jpg

But today I will still choose the direction of the bottom arrow, the one that points to the Penyo Penev House-Museum.
Well, in another post I will have a chance to say something more about this poet who died so early. I have mentioned it on another occasion as well. However, we are located in the city of Dimitrovgrad.

IMG_20210422_162823.jpg

But actually the reason why we are going in this direction today is the casinos we talked about last time. Gaming halls as a vital part of human life.
I haven't photographed many of them here, on this street, where there are so many of them.

IMG_20210422_162840.jpg

Where they actually alternate with credit and pawn shops.

IMG_20210422_162834.jpg

Yes, aren't these two institutions interconnected - one gives you money, the other takes it from you? 😁

IMG_20210422_162808.jpg

And all this takes place against the background of poverty. These arcades are located in residential buildings. And the residents of these buildings have no money to renovate them.

IMG_20210422_164950.jpg

But we are moving forward because we have no intention of staying in this place. People around me are already looking at me with distrust. You can't take pictures in front of a pawn shop or a credit shop. Not even in front of a residential building.

Okay, what do we have here?
Don't worry, it's not obscene or vulgar, although it may be perceived as such by outsiders, I mean people who were not born in this country. Because we are used to it. It's just an advertisement stuck on an electrical panel.
I've told you before about the mentality of the people in this country - everything from exhaust pipes(as in this case) to boilers, irrigation systems and building materials (and car lube and tires. You must see these ads - My God!😵) is advertised with half-naked women. 😁

IMG_20210422_165007.jpg

Have I already attracted men's interest to this country?

IMG_20210428_143848.jpg

But no. 'Work, work and work' - this is written on an election flyer of one of the country's parties, placed on the glass of this old kiosk.

IMG_20210428_143841.jpg

Very appropriate place - isn't it?

IMG_20210422_170431.jpg

The church. Or part of it. Pictures inside are forbidden, so that was the only possible picture that could be taken - from the street.

IMG_20210430_125557.jpg

Judas tree. I have shown you such a tree before. Apparently this city has a lot of them.

IMG_20210430_125606.jpg

Here we are behind the so called rotunda, a building attached to the municipal one, that I already showed you once.

IMG_20210430_125625.jpg

Another picture from the back. It's just because I like to expose the real picture and real state of things. In front will probably everything be perfect, you know.

IMG_20210430_130454.jpg

But be patient. Before we get to the front of the building, we see this:

IMG_20210430_130309.jpg

Graffiti commemorating the city, featuring that young poet with whom I began my post, the municipal building, and more and more.

IMG_20210430_130321.jpg

Dimitrovgrad is a source of strength and youth - reads this communist slogan from the past.

IMG_20210430_130040.jpg

The square in front of the municipality.

IMG_20210430_125950.jpg

The rotunda.

IMG_20210430_130012.jpg

And the municipality itself.

IMG_20210430_131034.jpg

I have already shown you this building, as well as this communist monument in front.

Such easily recognizable art. 😄

IMG_20210430_131142.jpg

But let's see something more beautiful.

IMG_20210430_131133.jpg

I told you I would show you pictures like this during the cold months.

IMG_20210430_131429.jpg

Final photos for goodbye to the municipality, seen from the events stage next to it.

IMG_20210430_131438.jpg

And I end this walk with a memorial plaque for: National celebration of 50 years of youth-brigade movement in the country.

IMG_20210430_131504.jpg

I confess, I am glad that I did not live at that time and did not participate in all this. 🤔

Hive.jpgSoul's Detour is a project started by me years ago when I had a blog about historical and not so popular tourist destinations in Eastern Belgium, West Germany and Luxembourg. Nowadays, this blog no longer exists, but I'm still here - passionate about architecture, art and mysteries and eager to share my discoveries and point of view with you.
Sort:

If you didn't say where are these photos, I would probably locate them in Eastern Europe, as only there you can see absurd things in the middle of the cities... Like those beautiful old buildings destroyed by shops with inappropriate shop windows, but leaving the building in ruins...
And then you caught a completely different image around the municipality building where everything is perfect... as it's "visible"... you have to vote for those "caring" politicians again... 😂

Thanks for sharing these awesome photos!!!

I have picked this post on behalf of the @OurPick project which will be highlighted in the next post!

I'm glad you're aware of what's going on in Eastern Europe, so I don't have to explain more about the truly absurd things that can be seen there. (Well, I still feel the need to explain the ads with half-naked women. 😄) Politicians... I can't find anyone to vote for anymore, really. Once upon a time there was at least some hope. There is not anymore.
Thanks for the curation! Have a great day! 😊

Your totally tight life is always throwing decision points in our life and whichever way we decide can affect the rest of our life’s

Such an interesting walk the contrast from front and rear of buildings stands out

Thanks for joining the Wednesday walk

The front and the back always look completely different, so I like to look at what's going on behind the facade, what the real state of things is, rather than the polished mask on the front.
As for the decisions - there were some game books in the past that I really liked. The reader chose for himself which path to take, and depending on his decision, the development of events in the book changed, as well as the ending itself. But there is no wrong or right decision. Just as in life. There are only consequences. 😊
Thank you for providing this great space for us!

People around me are already looking at me with distrust. You can't take pictures in front of a pawn shop or a credit shop. Not even in front of a residential building.

I am from Hungary, and some people do the same here too. There was an older guy in the city a few weeks ago. He asked me why I take photos of him, while I took photos about the sunrise, and he was behind me. I very rarely take photos about people. Mostly it is accidental with strangers. Sometimes they (either strangers, relatives or friends) ask me to take a photo about them. But that is rare.

I also rarely and only occasionally take pictures of people, and when someone asks me to take a picture of them on the street, I feel uncomfortable. But I've also had cases when people give me threatening looks because they think I'm taking pictures of them or taking pictures of their home.
It's really strange what you say about Hungary because, as @lightcaptured noted, the constant suspicion of people towards each other is characteristic of former communist countries. And yes, in our country, even in churches it is forbidden to take pictures, and no one can give an explanation as to why this is so.

Hey, reading your comment about Hungary with regards to taking photos in such places, made me curious, is it ok to take photos inside churches in your country?

I do not know. I have not tried taking photos inside churches so far. Only outside.

It's very interesting to me, as I traveled and travel around Europe and that's like a dividing line between the "Western civilization" and our former pack of "socialist" countries, affected by the USSR. In my country, Bulgaria, it is prohibited in 99% of the churches. The exceptions are either one has to pay to take photos or that church is some special one, that's actually more like a museum. I can't wrap my head around this. Total nonsense :)))
Thank you :)

Despite some visual flaws, in my humble opinion that is one of the most lively cities in Bulgaria.
Awesome perspective, as usual!

Yes, I am also amazed by this fact - so many people in a city with such polluted air and such a history. It's amazing and I don't know the reason for that.
Thank you again for the appreciation! 😊

You must be killin' it out here!

Hello dear friend @soulsdetour good day
It is very true what you say, life is a constant decision making, and you have to be as accurate as possible when making a decision about which path you take, so that those who lose sight of it, are the least convenient
You have chosen the path very well, you achieved a beautiful walk with really beautiful views. i love sculptures
Thank you very much for showing us these beautiful images.
happy walking wednesday

Dear friend @jlufer, I'm glad you liked the images although they do not exclusively show only beautiful things. They show reality. Bits of reality that, if put together, may or may not show a whole picture.
Happy Wednesday Walk to you too! 😊
