Although i did plan to go for a long walk the weather wasn't cooperating today, thus when the rain stopped for 15 minutes i went outside to see if there was anything new to spot in the garden.
And then i saw this light .......
In the corner of the garden near the choclate pepermint plant, it was blinking in the sunlight some kind of metal
They came down with a space ship
o no space ship that is my new Godox-M1 light in the background 🙂
all right enough scary stories 🤣 but it does look alien on this magnification.
the name of the beetle is :
Chrysolina americana - rosemary beetle - Rozemarijngoudhaantje

My word, that beetle is beautiful! It really does look like hammered metal. So pretty with the different copper tones. I've seen some of these very metallic beetles around but never with this many colours, I know there are a huge variety of species but I like the fig beetles the most, the ones that are metallic emerald green.

I do have a couple of flashes, they may well be Godox, I seldom well pretty much never use them, you have inspired me to charge up the batteries and learn how to use a flash now and again

They are so beautiful and do so much plant damage! Great photos!
they are indeed verry pretty to see , tricky to take pictures with flash light due to the reflections . I don't have to worry about the damage they do rosemary and lavender are both in my garden but those plants are strong enough .
We have Japanese beetles here that look similar with beautiful metallic colors but they eat everything!

I have made myself a similar light modifier made of Pringles box :)
The rest of the internal volume, that's not occupied by the head of the strobe, I have filled with black plastic straws, the bigger ones, used for cocktails, so the light get more directional/hard ;) I usually use it with a remote trigger so the light comes at an angle I like ;) Cheap and awesome.
This gives me the idea to put up a post about it, with a few example photos.

i'm working on a lens porn post someone asked what lenses i use and had , one image of the collection was the easy part putting them on a tripod to shoot same cenery is another story , weather is not helping at the moment :)

long exposures is something i never played with, to much light polution in my area
I meant it in a general sense, not only astro-photography ;)
Like, for instance, motion-blurred clouds or a street capture with some buildings and trails of car lights or ghostly people silhouettes ;)
yeah that's a type of photography i need to dig into, getting out of the comfort zone macro photgraphy
I think Macro is more difficult at most of its aspects. It only saves from the contract with other people;)
