Hello, dear Hive community,
A few days ago we went on a walk in the nearby forest, where we saw the trees fully green and leaves looking fresh and shiny. As the forest has also a lot of spruce trees, we immediately spotted almost neon green spruce tips.
I remember that as a child, my grandparents picked it and make some remedies. So we decide, today, to visit the forest once again and collect the young spruce shoots. The best are small ones, with aromatic smell that can be collected through whole spring.
The day was fantastic, and it was nice to leave the home after work with the sun setting later and later.
The forest was alive, as we saw countless birds playing around, a red squirrel, a rabbit, and a dear. If you were silent you could hear movements, bird songs or the wind. Spring is a very lively time since the Earth is opening another cycle to greet new lives.
So, do you already have any idea so far why we collected the spruce shoots?
For healthy syrup, which can be used as a natural remedy for many conditions. It soothes coughs, disinfects the airways, stimulates blood circulation and mucus secretion, soothes sore throats.
My grandmother always prepared this non-tasty, bitter syrup and says it's purifying the blood.
The main reason for this is that they contain a lot of vitamin C, which strengthens your immune system. You can also freeze or dry spruce tips and save them for the winter, when high doses of vitamin C are more important.
If you want to prepare yourself some nice vitamin C booster from the nature, just pluck some spruce shoots. Just make sure that you pick only a certain amount from one tree, otherwise the tree cannot grow and you damage it.
The syrup can be done super easily by making layers of spruce shoots and sugar. Later you need to put it on the sun for around 40 days. And it's ready!
Hopefully you enjoyed our #Wednesdaywalk with some nice tips on how to use our planet's ingredients.
Lots of love,
Tamara & Steffen
