The hard life of the Bulgarian cats

in Cat Photos4 years ago (edited)

Bulgarians have not developed their mind to the point where they should know they need to neuter their cats.

I've already spoken with many of them. Some even think this is not humane and it is a sin and God will punish people who cause this to their pets. When I then ask them how they deal with the many cats that are born each year, they answer: God takes care of that.
And how exactly?
By arranging the things so, that the cats die, or leave the house on their own due to lack of food.

Wow, this is apparently very humane!

Let's be honest, most people in Bulgaria are not very religious. But they still hope that someone or something will arrange the things for them so that the numerous cats in their yards just die or leave.

The other part of the people just don't care.

And here we are, me and my boyfriend taking care for a litter of kittens for the third time in a year and a half. Only because the real owner of the cats and half-owner of the house we live in, doesn't feel the need to neuter his cats, although he no longer lives in the house.

Some of the cats really died, others just vanished. But unlike most people here, I do care. And I don't hope the cats I care for, even when they're not mine, die or disappear.

Our beloved survivor cat Zaiko left the house the day after the mother moved her kittens in front of the house. Now I'm very upset about this situation. But apparently, there are rules in the cats kingdom that we don't understand. And when I say "our cat" this is again not true because he is not ours. But we were involved in the treatment of his wounds for so many months that I now can't swallow this loss 😿

A lot of the cat fans here also feel the same and we end up having strays that get taken to the markets or food shops/courts where they are abandoned - they hope they can find food there but they won't neuter their own cats to prevent these litters! :( I wish I could adopt them all... sigh!

I hope that someday the possession of pets will be so legally regulated that it will be a privilege for the owners to own one animal and that fines will be imposed in the absence of sufficient or proper care or in case of abandonment of the pet. Perhaps these are too harsh measures, but they are needed in some countries.

I agree! Until pet owners regard them as a part of the family and treat them with respect and responsibly... You're welcome! :)
