🎨 "One Eternal Token for Global Harmony" - My NFT Origin Story

in OnChainArt3 years ago

NFT Showroom is a marketplace built on HIVE, giving real value to digital art. Here, artists and collectors may exchange NFTs (non-fungible tokens): one-of-a-kind items that hold real value in cryptocurrency.

If you are an artist or art appreciator, you might like to know about my experience with NFTs. I am an independent artist, with some experience in testing a few different NFT marketplaces. I’d like to show you a 5-minute intro, so you can the inner workings of an NFT entering the art market. At the same time, I will take the opportunity to tell you about my NFT.

If NFTs are new to you, it might be helpful to think them as crypto-art. These are artworks and collectibles that are tracked on a blockchain with a unique certificate of authenticity. NFTs produce real value because of their rarity and proof of registration. This minting process certifies that a token is unique or highly limited.

Non-fungible tokens, or NFTs, have quickly become one of the fastest growing trends in the digital market, with sales totaling more than $250 million in 2020. Insider

For artists, NFTs give us an entirely new marketplace to sell digital artwork and collectibles. Here are some of the outstanding marketplaces where NFTs are sold: OpenSea, Rarible, Nifty, and SuperRare. Each of these relies on the Ethereum cryptocurrency. The NFT Showroom marketplace relies on the HIVE cryptocurrency.

NFT Showroom is connected to our Hive-Engine Wallet. In order to buy and sell on NFT Showroom, we need SWAP.HIVE, which is a token in the HIVE blockchain, backed 1:1 with HIVE. There is a 1% fee when converting between HIVE and SWAP.HIVE. The conversion process is handled within NFT Showroom, and it is pretty straightforward, once you know what you're looking for.

By the way, I am not affiliated with NFT Showroom in any way, but I am impressed by it. I feel NFT Showroom is an ideal fit for the project I'm sharing here, because this crypto-art is designed for an audience who understands Hive communities.

How To Sell Your Digital Art as NFTs

For starters, begin with an artistic concept, and turn it into digital art. Some NFTs stand alone as works of art, while others have a strong storytelling element to them. For example, I created a collectible keepsake that symbolizes the harmonizing power of music. For me, this concept started years ago, with a vision to bring peace into the world through the practice of singing in harmony.

Here are some sketches that helped me to visualize and realize this dream:

I pictured myself singing together with someone I love.

I pictured myself blooming like a flower, with guitar power.

I pictured myself on a stage, with the words projected for the audience to sing along.

Today, I see myself as the host of a global community, celebrating live music.

My NFT is titled: "One Eternal Token For Global Harmony - #001: "Sweeter Than Honey". The artwork is an animated double-sided coin, minted on NFT Showroom: https://nftshowroom.com/gallery/cabelindsay_global-harmony_one-eternal-token-for-global-harmony-001-sweeter-than-honey. As you can read in the description, this token represents an everlasting stand for Global Harmony. Token #001 features the original artwork from the 1st Hive Open Mic event, held April 12-18, 2020.

This is the way I'm presenting the NFT origin story in words:

Hive Open Mic ( #openmic ) is a music movement that I am deeply invested in. It started in the Spring of 2020, when live music was dead. Hive Open Mic gave artists a virtual stage, bringing together musicians and listeners from around the world. A year later, we celebrate the 52nd consecutive weekly event, welcoming all walks of life to harmonize, through our appreciation of the arts.

The owner of this token will hold the power to be a true patron of the arts. A purchase provides a valuable boost to help the community to continue hosting and curating the weekly event. In return, the owner receives the animated GIF, shown here, also unlocking the original vector art. The buyer holds permission to present this crypto art online and in print, inviting people to join in and enjoy the creative spirit.

Create Your NFT Origin Story.

Hopefully the above example gives you some ideas for your NFT story. All of the marketplaces I’ve seen so far have a large area available for the description of your NFT, which underscores the importance of storytelling. In this case, my NFT has a lengthy description that allows buyers to understand what they're investing in. Some collectors will be satisfied in the art itself, but in my understanding most buyers will require some education about you and your art.

Tokenize Your NFT.

Once you have your digital art ready to sell on an NFT marketplace, your first step is to create an account and verify it. Then you’ll be able to tokenize your art. This process is called minting. Nearly all marketplaces currently require a small minting fee to register the NFT. Most marketplaces also require a gas fee to sell the NFT. Lucky for us Hive users, NFT Showroom makes it simple for anyone holding some HIVE cryptocurrency. NFT Showroom does require a small fee to tokenize, but there is zero gas fee, which makes it affordable for artists getting started.

An important note for artists in the minting process: Everything is final on the blockchain. So the minting process requires a high attention to detail. In one of my many trials and errors, I intended to create three editions of this one art, but I only published one. So I reached out for help on the NFT Showroom channel on Discord, and received a reply by @juliakponsford, who is a noteworthy artist here on Hive. I felt grateful for the firm response, resolved in minutes.

Consider The Buyer's Motivation.

Generally NFT buyers give their financial support to artists and causes they like. NFTs give owners some basic usage rights to display the art, plus bragging rights to show ownership with a blockchain entry to back it up. For collectors, NFTs are investment opportunities that may be sold at a later date for a profit. Before you sell your NFT, you'll setup a gift for the buyer to unlock after the purchase. This unlockable content may include the digital art, or something else of value.

What makes NFTs so interesting — or “nifty,” as its backers like to say — is that the tokens can be attached to just about anything, like digital artwork, videos, or other exclusives for an artist’s fanbase. Rolling Stone

A Bright Future For Artists

NFTs are the hottest emergence in the art world right now, and it is time for us to be buzzing and humming with excitement. NFT Showroom is a smart option for Hive artists and collectors, who may already have some funds to work with. I am happy to report that NFT Showroom is an excellent entry point to the marketplace because of its easy usability, the affordable price, and the supportive team. I wish you all the best in your artistic journey, and I hope you'll tell me all about it.
