Alcohol Ink on Polypropylene Paper

Today I present to you a flower painting reminiscent of Japanese cherry blossoms. I must point out that alcohol ink flow art is not created with brushes and such! The alcohol ink is dripped on the paper and moved in place solely by streams of air, with implements like blowers, hair dryers, airbrush spray guns, or in this case my very breath.
While this makes it extremely difficult to create the shapes required by the subject matter, it is the only way to get the super light, feathery, transparent appearance of the finished piece. The fast evaporation of the alcohol base makes the ink thicker as it flows, eventually culminating in an outline when the remaining ink particles create a "dam" and can't flow any further. This is often a matter of seconds which makes this type of art so difficult to master.
Because things need to move quickly, my process photos (below) usually turn out pretty crappy; it is hard enough to take photos at all without ruining the painting during the photo break. I'm sorry about that, but it's better than nothing, right? Why a lady wouldn't want to film herself bent over while making blowing noises I will leave to your imagination...
Heute präsentiere ich euch ein Blumenbild, das an japanische Kirschblüten erinnert. Ich muss darauf hinweisen, dass Fließbilder mit Alkoholtinte nicht mit Pinseln und dergleichen erstellt werden! Die Alkoholtinte wird auf das Papier getropft und ausschließlich durch Luftströme bewegt, mit Geräten wie Föns, Airbrush-Spritzpistolen oder in diesem Fall durch meinen eigenen Atem.
Das macht es zwar extrem schwierig, die vom Thema geforderten Formen zu schaffen, aber es ist der einzige Weg, um das federleichte, transparente Aussehen des fertigen Werks zu erreichen. Durch die schnelle Verdunstung des Alkohols wird die Tinte beim Fließen dicker und erzeugt schließlich einen "Damm" aus den verbleibenden Tintepartikeln und damit einen Umriss, weil die Tinte nicht mehr weiterfließen kann. Dies ist oft eine Sache von Sekunden, was diese Art von Kunst so schwierig zu meistern macht.
Da es schnell gehen muss, werden meine Fotos vom Prozess (unten) meist ziemlich mies; es ist schon schwer genug, überhaupt Fotos zu machen, ohne das Bild durch die Fotopause zu ruinieren. Das tut mir leid, aber es ist besser als nichts, oder? Warum eine Dame sich nicht dabei filmt, wie sie sich über etwas beugt und dabei Blasgeräusche von sich gibt, überlasse ich eurer Vorstellungskraft...
