Expectant Agog : Orientations

Final Update

  • This will be my final update on this artwork until it is completed. This has been a fun one to work on but has taken more time than i anticipated. Working on this piece has been a nice break from the other art projects i have been attempting.

If you are interested in the background of this artwork or the process you can check out my posts in sequential order with these links. First...Expectant: Agog Second... Expectant: Agog 2.0 and Third...Expectant: Agog Update.

Rather than just showing progress shots in an orderly fashion of the development, i decided to spice it up a bit by adding different perspectives and orientations for your viewing pleasures.

In the image above you can see the layer of metallic gold Prisma color pencil around the breast area. I had left off having just finished the blue so now it's on to the gold. After experimenting a bit i decided to put a second layer of metallic copper on top of the gold base layer. This gave a richer gold-tone and added a much needed hint of a red hue to the warm gold. This will become more noticeable as we continue.

You can tell the blue has been worked up in layers by the sheen of the wax-base from the pencil. The sheens of the wax and from the metallics are not quite lackluster but definitely don't do the justice deserved of this artworks interplay with it's lighting.

In the image above you can see some outlining, i did with a metallic silver gel-pen. This is another light catcher and reflector that adds to the overall image. I feel like the cool contrast of the silver juxtaposed with such large areas of gold makes for an interesting interaction with the art and light for the observer.

At this point, as you can see, i used a metallic gold gel-pen to give contouring stripes on the layers of blue. You can notice the hint of red atop the gold in the penciled areas when you compare that tone to the gold stripes made with the metallic gel.

I tried multiple orientations when shooting these images keeping in mind where my light source was and how it was shining off of the paper. I did my best to capture the luster and sheens from different angles and perspectives in the photography to help translate the interactive quality of this piece. When holding this paper in your hand you have to move it around to get all the different values and tones.

I believe a person can tell a lot about an artwork created by hand by looking at the backside. Here, in the image above, you can see each individual sharpie line that overlaps minimally. I actually have gone over much of the sharpie black since this image to create a more solid and deeper shade of black on the front. You can see where the pink highlighter also bled through the paper. It's pretty cool how much is hidden on the surface of the other side.

In the image below you can see the white charcoal pencil i used to get some white stripes for the background. I kind of experimented along the way a bit. I ended up coloring white wax-based Prisma on top of the charcoal to seal it on a bit... so it wouldn't just dust away from contact or powder up the black.

I still have a way to go in order to call this a wrap. I plan on doing some interesting things in the black between the white stripes. I also plan on detailing and outlining in black much of the inner workings of the body. I have a couple of other ideas i will wait to decide on after i make some more progress.

I hope you enjoyed this post and the artwork. I look forward to bringing you the finished amalgamation here soon. I have many more orientation close-ups to add on the final post of this Expectant Agog venture. I will also most likely mint this on the NFT Showroom site. Feel free to drop any comments or suggestions down below. Take Care and Thanks Again for stopping by!
