Life and death

in OnChainArt4 years ago (edited)

This is an old watercolour drawing. I painted this as a child. This watercolour abstract painting explores the concept of life and death. How can we interact with each other and with ourselves when we become aware of our own ephemeral existence into this world?

I was in my own world as a child and I often felt like I don't belong and conform like people would have expected me to. Thinking about the meaning of life and death while so young doesn't make you particularly popular so art was a great refuge in which I could put my thoughts and be ok with it. I think I wouldn't be what I am today if I wouldn't have found a great friend in brushes, paints and paper in my solitary moments. I also owe a lot to my grandmother, one of the few people who just let me be and didn't try to push me to become what I was not. She encouraged me to be free, go wherever I feel I am happy and always love myself. All of these encouragements did me well when I could hear so many voices saying: be more popular, be more talkative, make lots of friends, go and be like the other kids. I didn't. I'm glad I had the courage to be what I was: myself. Just like a tree which grows in its own rythm despite all of the noise around. The tree just grows... In silence.

Chaotic strokes of watercolour evoke the chaos of life, the wonders and also the joys of it. Can there be a happy concept of life after we know that life also implies death, just like in a forest, where old dead trees can nurture the ground for the new ones to grow? I illustrated blue trees as a metaphor for the sadness which death evokes in us, putting crosses as a symbol for lifelessness. I also thought about the meaning of life: why conform and imitate others if in the end we're all going to die? Why not be yourself if you only live once on Earth?

One day when I am rich I want to have an authentic Mary painting on my wall to look at each morning and think man I am so cultured I know art and the artist lol

Awwww that's just so cute. Real friends are the biggest fans and I think it would be so awesome. I'm sure that day will come and I will even give you an autograph hihi. You've made my day with such a kind cute comment, thank you🤗

lol you better believe it’s on my bucket list and then I hope I get an invite to your shows for the latest collection even though I refuse to dress up and will be there in sneakers and a hoodie

Haha I will totally be ok with it. I value good character, manners and kindness above dress code. Some might dress as gentlemen as behave totally the opposite. So dress average and behave spectacular is what I would look for in people.

Love the abstract art☺️

Hey! Thank you very much!
