Dreamy | Drawing with the Note 10+

in OnChainArt4 years ago

Ginger hair has always been so stunning, especially when matched with equally bewitching blueish, greenish eyes. Sometimes when I draw and get to choose a hair color, I almost automatically pick this sun-kissed auburn-ish shade.

  • Exhibit A: one of my first digital drawings using my Note 10+
  • Exhibit B: my deviantART profile photo (the one and only 8-bit animation GIF I made... ever)

It isn't even that red is my favorite color. Or orange. Ginger hair just simply is attractive! (I guess that's why Prince Harry has been a favorite to me above Prince William, or why Ron Weasley is such a dear despite his tangible insecurities.)

Today, I found another reference with — get this — red hair.

Dreamy

Unlike my previous digital painting "translations" of portrait photos, this time, I actually know the title of my reference photo. It's entitled Leaked Dreams of Our Past by Ines Rehberger.

In this drawing, instead of a darker take, I chose to lighten up the ambiance somewhat. The model, Katrin, looked almost angry in the original photograph, but I couldn't bring myself to make my drawing look as fiery.

I had trouble with the hair — an irony, really — and used the pencil brush so haphazardly I ended up not caring much. But to be fair, there's something endearing about nest-like hair and errr, by effect, bad painting strokes. Not an excuse, but it's freeing somewhat to just draw carelessly compared to how I normally would (quite meticulously, it's crazy).

Initially, the hair color was a little pale. I had to add another layer to kind of saturate the hair. (Speaking of pale stuff and saturation — I'd really love to learn master values someday.)

I honestly would have stopped at just that, backgroundless and all. But, well, I wanted to try reflective waters, so I did. The reflection on the water and random ripples were so fun to play with.

  • Device: Samsung Galaxy Note 10+
  • Apps:
  • Brushes: watercolor (at varying opacity settings); pencil (100% opacity); smudge; blur

Notes

My only repo in Github has been gaining views after getting one of our research works published. It's honestly making me a little anxious, but so far, drawing stuff is keeping me grounded. It's what I like best about drawing, I think. It keeps my head preoccupied.

Also, this An Old Man's Advice video is heartwarming to watch.
