Hello everyone, sharing with you my ink painting for the daily drawing challenge day 14 'Crying'.
I was drawn to the original reference by how moving the expressive portrait is. I wanted to recreate that in a medium I would enjoy. I chose ink because it is great for pieces like these that are mostly black and a little water goes a long way to create various tones in the face.

The work was done over A4 paper and took a few hours to complete.
Here is the process:
Rough pencil sketch to get the basic proportions right.
I then move on to the ink beginning with the eyes as they are my main focal point. Starting with pure black then easily allows me with a brush to spread it to a lighter tone. I sometimes used just the black of the water to create the tones.
I am towards the end here. I adjust some little things like the proportions of the face and add smaller details like strands of hair that go over the face and hand.
Finished Result!
Thanks for checking this post out and thank you for the daily drawing challenge #DDC for inspiring me to paint this today!

I can see the tear dripping down her face. Great piece with ink. The rendition looks like you made use of watercolor.
Thanks for sharing.
Thanks, I could have done it in watercolour but ink worked just aswell
That looks so real, nice use of ink for shading.
Thanks :)
