The Making of a New Logo for Scallywags Bar in Da Nang, Vietnam.
Hello Freinds,
A logo is an essential part of building and strengthening a brand. It's the first thing that customers and potential customers see when they come across your business, and it's a powerful symbol that can help to create a lasting impression. A logo can also help to give customers a sense of familiarity, allowing them to quickly recognize and identify your business. It's a critical aspect of any successful brand, and an effective logo should be carefully designed with the company's values, mission, and objectives in mind.
About a month back, I was asked to design a log for a new bar in Da Nang, Vietnam, called "Scallywags".
The idea was somewhat pirate themed. Here is the initial image they sent me for reference on the concept.
From that, I did a few sketches ...
The initial logo sketches were a creative journey of exploration. We wanted to push boundaries and see if we could find a unique and unexpected angle that could help define the brand. We were inspired by the classic logos of the past, but we also wanted to break new ground and capture the essence of the brand in a fresh and interesting way.
Side note on the name... The term scallywag is an old-fashioned term with a somewhat mysterious history. It's believed to have originated in Scotland and Northern England and is used to describe a mischievous and often troublesome person. It can also be used to describe someone who is roguish or particularly daring, or even a rebellious troublemaker. Usually, the term carries positive connotations, suggesting a person who is amusing and entertaining. Scallywags are often viewed as charming and carefree, providing a bit of comic relief in a situation. It can also be used to describe a person who is disreputable yet still likable
After the initial sketch, we discussed the direction for the project in detail, exploring the various possibilities. With the ideas clear in my mind, I opened up Illustrator and started creating a few mock-ups to see how the design could take shape. It was exciting to see the ideas take on a visual form, and I quickly got to work on refining the design to make sure it hit the mark.

We then settled on the more classic skull and cross bones.
Removed the "'" in on the "S" and pushed the using a bit more.
Clean it up, and here is the final the client loved.
They had the logo printed on the signs and now adorn the streets of Danang.
There's nothing quite like the feeling of pride that comes with seeing a finished project you've worked on adorning a building. It's a unique sense of accomplishment that can't be matched, and serves as a reminder of the hard work and dedication you've invested. Taking a moment to appreciate the fruits of your labor can be immensely satisfying, and it's a gratification that will stay with you for a long time to come.
If you need any design work, let me know. I am taking on clients for logos or social media graphics ( see the post here for more about that: https://peakd.com/hive-141359/@jacuzzi/do-you-need-graphics-help-or-assistance-hire-me ).
Thank you for taking the time to read this post.
