Painting the Sky last - Autumn Colours Timelapse (Video)

in OnChainArt4 years ago (edited)

Here is a small Oil painting I did on 8 x 10 canvas.

It is of the dense dark fall colours along the Rideau River in Canada. I usually paint watercolours from my kayak and then later make larger oil paintings from those. This is from a photo I took in the kayak looking back at the shore. I Typically paint with watercolours and oils then convert them to Digital where I experiment with other tools.

Some Digital Blending after effects....

Here is the Timelapse Video :

These are the steps in my Painting Process...

Step 1: I always start with a burnt Siena under painting on the canvas.

Step 2: Add the colours of the maples, birch and sumac using a lot of oil on my brush.

Step 3: begin to add the darker greens and shadows of the coniferous trees.

Step 4: Add the pale blue sky along the top of the painting and between the trees.

Some details of the brush work. I practice painting quickly so that I am able to paint from the kayak while being eaten by mosquitoes and black flies.

This is a photo of my small studio set up. I’m painting from an original photograph I took with my phone on the Rideau River.

The final painting is almost abstract.

Wow...really wonderful autumn scenery of a forest... I like the colors of autumn when the leaves fall from trees...By the way you have a different style of painting actually when I say style I mean you paint separately the canvas...as if you code the colors and you strike the brush color by color and suddenly the big picture can be seen...Have a great day my friend...I am not a professional painter maybe this technique has a name I just want to tell you what i see...

Yes.... when painting from the kayak I need to paint all one colour at a time so I don’t need to clean my brushes as often.

I don't think so before...It is really a wisely and logical move...👍

That is really beautiful! My mom was fantastic with oils... I have never tried myself... but she left all her paints to me as well as an unfinished canvas that was originally intended for me - which I suppose one day I will attempt to complete... maybe :) !tip

Thanks ... I love painting with oils. My favorite medium.... but can get messy. .... I will also join your Discord Group.

I shall endeavor to learn at some point.... for now I suppose it is still a little bit of a sore point for me as we lost our mom quite recently. She was an artist and an art teacher and I am not quite ready to delve into that arena...

I am So sorry for your loss. At some point painting with oils will be a way for you to reconnect to her spirit and passion and love for her work.

Thank you! And yes, I believe you are right!

Beautiful! I knew an art teacher that used the effects in a software to change the photo that she wanted to paint, and then paint it in traditional oil on canvas using the modified photo as inspiration. So the opposite. Both your versions are lovely !

Thanks... I do that method also

Thank you for the resteem !

You are very welcome .... Tweeted too.
