Hey Hive!
We're back again with another Art Attack! If you're new to the series, this is where I share my drawings and the process behind them. A behind-the-scenes look at my artwork, if you will. This is not to say that I'm very good at art, or that I'm a professional in any way. In fact this is the opposite, and serves as a reminder to how I first started, and lets me track my progress too!
If you missed the last couple of posts, I started a new series where I use this template to draw different characters based on suggestions from my viewers on Twitch!
My mod Nightsy was the first person to redeem this and he redeemed one a day for 3 days straight! This third request was also by him, and he requested I draw Caitlyn from League of Legends/Arcane!
I don't play League (and tbh never will since I don't like MOBAs) and I didn’t know anything about her when I started drawing so I asked for a lot of references and turns out she’s a sniper so drawing her with her gun made sense. I was kinda nervous since I’ve never drawn a gun before but at least it was something sorta familiar since I’ve seen that same skin in Valorant.

Turns out she has two different outfits in-game, and tbh I like her alternate outfit a lot better. Not because it's more revealing but I think it suits her better. The default outfit, while it does provide more protection (I assume) it feels more clunky especially in the shoulder and neck area.

Anyway, since the alt outfit has less details I went with that instead just to make my life easier. This was the rough sketch I came up with on stream in like 3 minutes:
And after revising it I reworked it to match her pose better and thought this one made her more badass (plus I wouldn't have to draw too much of the gun so it would be easier on me too).
I went with this sketch and did the line art for her and decided on a simple one for her gun since most of the details are going to be through colour.
It took quite a while to colour the gun right, and I tried my best to make it as accurate as possible. But eventually we get this:
For the background Nightsy suggested a rooftop of sorts since she’s a sniper, and I thought of a city skyline with a crosshair in front would be cool. I tried googling for skyline reference pics but I found them too complicated and wanted something more simple and vector-like since this was just a background. Thankfully my favourite YT artist Art with Flo had a tutorial for a simple skyline that was perfect! She also had free building brushes on Procreate so this is really all thanks to her!
I wanted to go for a sunset vibe since the purple really matches Caitlyn, and this was the background I came up with:
I really loved how this background came out! Even though it's kinda simple I thought it was just perfect.
And this was the final piece:
I changed her lips a little bit too and thought this looked so much better than whatever I drew previously. Her arms might look a little disproportionate though but I had to make it so that it reached her hat so I didn't have a choice. I think overall she looks alright, and the fun looks pretty legit too.
It was only after I drew this that I started watching Arcane and found out she's in the show too! And damn what a great shot she is! I was so proud to finally get where she's from and what she's like.
