Solitary island in the distant sea. But it doesn't seem to be uninhabited. The islanders huddle together and help each other out, and the shore is home to sea birds. Seabirds gather on the shore, and the island is also home to unique creatures. The islanders live in the midst of harsh nature while taking care of nature. I drew this picture while imagining such an island.

There was a time when I liked to research remote islands. There are many remote islands in Japan. I used to go there by ferry or high-speed boat. My ancestors' graves are in Kagawa Prefecture, so I went to Shodoshima, Ogijima, and Megijima while visiting their graves. Also, there are islands in Lake Biwa in the neighboring Shiga Prefecture. There are also islands in Lake Biwa in neighboring Shiga Prefecture, such as Okinoshima and Chikubujima.
I would like to go there again.
The islands in Kyoto Prefecture are located in the Sea of Japan, but they are all uninhabited, and many of them are off-limits to the general public for reasons such as nature conservation.

「絶海の孤島にて」

絶海の孤島。でも無人島ではなさそうだ。島民は身を寄せ合って助け合いながら暮らし、海岸は海鳥たちが集まっている。ここはこの島固有の生き物も生息している。厳しい自然の中で、自然を大切にしながら生きている。そんな島を想像しながら描きました。

むかし、離島のことを調べるのが好きだった時期がありました。日本にはたくさんの離島があります。そこまではフェリーや高速船などで行ったりして。私のご先祖様のお墓が香川県にあるので、お墓参りのついでに小豆島や男木島、女木島へ行ったりしました。あと、隣の滋賀県の琵琶湖にも島があるのです。沖ノ島とか竹生島とか。
また行きたいなと思います。
なお京都府の離島は日本海にありますがすべて無人島で、自然保護などの理由で一般の人は上陸禁止の島が多いです。
