I changed the way to paint in procreate because it does not really have a brush that can paint and blend at the same time like Paint tool SAI, a program that I usually use. Procreate brushes approach is more similar to Photoshop.
Drafting
This is the 1st attempt. but the character looks so weird to me no matter how much I adjust it. So I decided to start over again.
One of the reason that my 1st attempt look so weird I think it's because of the colour is too boring. So at this 2nd painting I trying to put various of colour so it doesn't look so boring. Here I'm laying out all the colours, light and shadows without blending them.
Now I blend them using the smudge tool that I just discovered. Hahaha
Now I continue to add details and managing some weird area.
Add some sharp highlights and some hair and background details.
Adjusting the colors and making the shadow looking dramatic. It's done!

Wonderful process. I see you had a lot of ideas in your mind to improve your drawing. At the beginning, as you say, it did look strange, but in the end you have achieved a realistic touch, very good and besides. The final result is incredible.
