Photography Lovers End of Year Contest ~ Ben Wickenton

It's the end of the year and time for photographers to summarize their work and select the best representatives for the past 12 months. There is one such contest here on Hive - End of Year Contest - with plenty of amazing contributors. Benwickenton picks his favorites from what has been a challenging year regarding travel. Great selection!

I started the year with a trip down to The Great Ocean road where I was able to spend the day exploring some of the places I hadn't visited before, then capturing sunset over the famous Gibson's Steps.

Introduction Post - A Pro Photographer and Fully Caffeinated World Traveler

Hive platform has welcomed another rockstar! If you are somewhat interested in high level landscape photography, then the name of Elia Locardi must have crossed your path at some point. Elia is a world traveler looking for spectacular natural and man-made wonders that combined with dramatic weather conditions create incredible photographs.

Growing up, I was fascinated by nature as well as the distinctly vibrant and turbulent weather patterns that occur in a tropical climate zone. Looking back, this quiet childhood helped to instill a deep connection to nature and my long-standing fascination with the weather has followed me into adulthood to become one of the main driving elements of my photography.

Hiking the Padley Gorge trail in the Peak District National Park

Alice, our newcomer on the platform, shares her experience of hiking the Peak District National Park in UK. The adventure starts with the early morning winter sun, hiking uphill through the gorge and by the flowing creek until mist and dark determine the end of the exploration.

We ended up at the Longshaw Estate - A National Trust property on the east side of the Peaks, not far from Sheffield. We parked the car on the roadside just up the hill on the ridge above the visitors car park so we could enjoy the views across the valley before heading down to Padley Gorge.

Photography Lovers End of Year Contest - Aleksandra Mart

Another entry to End of the year contest with some amazing, both adventure and work related, photographs! Aleksandra managed to travel a lot this year and has some beautiful photos from most amazing places to share. Her side work as a concert photographer produced some great results as well.

Another important event for me. I worked as a photographer on a music video shoot for my favorite rock band - Bi-2. Filming lasted several days, in different locations. One of the locations is Mosfilm, a professional video studio. It was very interesting for me to work there and see the whole process from the inside.

Filming Video for Christmas song

While we see photography communities thriving lately on Hive, bil.prag tries to shake up the filmmakers of the platform. This last minute project with the girls from the Slovak folklore group was a success. Nice melody and an interesting story idea for a video. You can hear the song in a separate post.

Last Sunday i had an opportunity to film a video for a Christmas song for Girls choir Perla. (Dievčenská spevácka skupina Perla). It is kinda of a tradition now, doing it for 3 years. We had one day to film it and few days to edit. Yet again we talked how we should start filming earlier and yet again we did it last minute :D

A Misty, Frosty Peak District Morning - Part 2 - Into the Woods

Image property of @kiers

There are few things more enjoyable and exciting then being in the woods early in the morning, with the mist hiding the distractions and separating trees into different layers, frost covering the grass and sun barely showing through the haze. In this two-part story kiers shows us some incredible scenes he was able to capture while exploring the Peak District.

That said, one last scene caught my eye as I wandered back - it felt bright and hopeful (mainly the from the colour of the grass I think). It felt like a good scene to draw the outing to a close and I then made my way back to the car, soaking up the atmosphere (literally, in the case of my sodden ankles).
