Hivechess Season 22 finally arrived!

in The Chess Community9 days ago (edited)

Dear chessfans,
finally S22 is here, first round will start this Friday, at the usual time (19h GMT)!

The results and stats of the previous season 21 you can look up in this post, the payouts of S21 (in total 2350 Hive) you can check out here, so we can focus straight on what lies ahead!

S22 will go over 10 rounds and unlike in the past there will be 2 completely separate tournaments, the "Masters" for players with a minimum rating of 1800 and the "Challangers" for all other players. The top 3 of the Challengers tournament have the right to play in next season´s Master tournament if there is one (but they don´t need to if they don´t want).

Both tournaments have for now restricted entry by rating. What does this mean? If you have less than 1800 you cannot play in the Masters, but you can in the Challengers. And vice versa, if you have more than 1800, you can´t play in the Challengers. Of note, if you had 1800 or above at any point during the last week prior to the tournament date, you as well can only play in the Masters even if you rating dropped <1800 since then! This rule was setup by Lichess to prevent sandbagging.
If you change your rating over the 10 weeks? You just continue in the other tournament and keep your points. Same if you accidentally played in the Masters, but now are below 1800 again. You take your points from this tournament but stay in the Challengers one.

Unlike in the past I won´t track the tournament performance this time. It was a lot of work with little benefit. And the percentage of post rewards feeding the prize pool is this season 65% (up from 60%). @badge-646464 will be used to accrue the prizes for S22, so please make this account a small beneficiary on your S22-related posts, to support the season rewards. Such beneficiary posts will be upvoted by me much better, so it may be a win-win.

The size of the prizepool will be per default higher in the Masters (to motivate players to play there next season), but also the more rounds you play, the higher your prize, so also newbies have a chance to earn a decent prize, if they join the tournaments consistently! In this season you need to play 5 out of 10 rounds to earn a prize, to incentivize regular players over occasional ones.

Reblogging of the reminder and result posts is welcomed, or any advertisement for the tournament! Sponsorships are highly appreciated (@yabapmatt, @blanchy?)!

Rules

  • All players are welcome, also newbies, you just need a free Lichess-account and join our team in Lichess here (password is "Hive")!
  • Every Friday is one round.
  • Time mode is varying (5+0, 3+2, 2+1,...), sometimes Swiss, sometimes Chess960 (=Fischer Random, Freestyle).
  • The winner of each round gets the number of points equaling the number of players in that round, the second ranked one point less and so forth until the one on the bottom of the table who gets one point (i.e. the Lighteye-scoring). In order to be counted, at least 5 games must have been played.
  • If two players have the same number of points, the one who played less rounds is first. If that is equal too, then eventually the last direct decisive encounter rules.
  • PAYOUT: The tournament points of the 10 rounds are summed up. The top 3 of the Challengers are allowed to play in the Masters next season. The top 3 of both tournaments will get special prizes, the rest of the prize pool is divided according to the number of tournament points achieved (50%) and the number of rounds played (50%). In order to qualify for a prize you have to participate in at least five of the ten rounds!
  • If I don´t know your Hive username, you won´t be considered for the standings and prizes, so please let me know your Hive name in the comments!

Please share this announcement among your (chess) friends!
The more participate, the more fun! And maybe some are even interested to join Hive and it´s Chess Community?

See you all on Friday and good luck!

Il check it out . Communities are something on the long finger

Sure, not urgent!

Happy to see you come up with season 22. Now this division thing will have more tougher games and i like it. But only thing making me feel sad is i am not going to play with you @stayoutoftherz, @eniolw, @samostically and @maestroask etc... who are top players. But lets see and enjoy this different way. I'll try to play regularly and bcz of my tight schedule and work i have i am missing so many saturday showdowns and hivechess960.

I know, all formats have their downsides.

Just a thought: It'd be ideal if we could take into account the average rating of the player in the last month or something in order to prevent sandbagging. It doesn't have to happen here necessarily, but I know of players who are constantly sandbagging when there's a prize.

True, but since the tournament goes over 10 weeks, do you think a player can that consistently sandbag without traces in the rating graph?
In case of reasonable suspicions (like repeated zigzag patterns) I can exclude players.

The ones I met made sure not to surpass a certain rating ceiling. They were significantly strong players, but they pretended to be weaker. They also share their Lichess accounts with players of different strength, including lower rated players.

People get creative when it comes to making some money. I'm not saying it has to happen here though.

Well, so much money it isn´t unfortunately at these Hive levels. And to deceipt your rating over 10 weeks seems like a lot of effort.
But in principle everything is possible.

Your initiative is definitely good. I am new to this hive platform and can't even play chess. But I will try to learn chess soon. And participate in your tournament.

New Challenges! New Opportunities and a lot of good work...

Let´s see how this will work out.

stranger27, you mined 0.9 🟧 HBIT and the user you replied to (stayoutoftherz) received 0.1 HBIT on your behalf as a tip. When you mine HBIT, you're also playing the Wusang: Isle of Blaq game. 🏴‍☠️

Sorry, but you didn't find a bonus treasure token today. Try again tomorrow...they're out there! Your random number was 0.6937782711813621, also viewable in the Discord server, #hbit-wusang-log channel. | tools | wallet | discord | community | daily <><

Check for bonus treasure tokens by entering your username at a block explorer A, explorer B, or take a look at your wallet.
There is a treasure chest of bitcoin sats hidden in Wusang: Isle of Blaq. Happy treasure hunting! 😃 Read about Hivebits (HBIT) or read the story of Wusang: Isle of Blaq.

More hivechess, count me in.
