Reminder: Special Round 6 of the Hivechess Tournament Season 6, tomorrow Friday 19 GMT

Dear Chess fans,
round 6 will start tomorrow at the usual time. It collides just with the first half of a EM soccer game - one has to set priorities!

This time I tried an experiment. There will be actually 2 tournaments at the same time, one for players with a rating of 2000 and above, and another one for players with a rating of <=2000 (it is actually the weekly average that is counted). The winner of each tournament gets up to 7 points. The second 6 and so forth. By this the total amount of points to achieve is app. the same (=2*28) as with one tournament with 10,9,8 (=55).

Why the heck he is doing this?
More equally skilled players will play against each other - on average, I hope. And less professional players have more chances to win tournament points which could help making participation more attractive.

The downside?
Smaller groups with probably more waiting time between the games. And of course more work for me to organize and track&count afterwards. But worth a try!

Why 2000?
Because from the numbers of players (in the current ranking) in each category plus their likelihood of participation (some lower ranked players tend to play less frequently) this threshold allows a probably even distribution of players and thus even chance to get points. Only afterwards we will see, if it turned out right or if we would have to adjust the cutoff (to either 1900 or 2100, there is nothing in between).

Funnily, I wanted to do this already last week and had set up the tournaments already. Then I realized that with my rating of at that time 1980 or so I didn´t qualify for the 2000+ one and at the same time apparently my weekly average rating was too high and thus I didn´t qualify for the other one as well! I tried hard to get over 2000 but without success. Fortunately I hadn´t posted the announcement yet, so I cancelled both tournaments and created a new one.
So check out that you at least qualify for one of them to avoid a similar situation.

If it works out well, we could do this more often, but first let´s see!

Time Mode: 4+2 (4 minutes per game, 2 sec. increment), 60 min. arena mode, no streaks

Thanks for working so hard on one of my favorite pass time! Which group will I be a part of.:):):)

Excellent, I really liked the new shape. According to the last tournament, then there will be 8 players with more than 2000 and 7 players with less than 2000.

I decided to play now because at 20 PM I will not learn anything new for exam anyway. And I hope to know everything so far.

Agree! Learning is overestimated!
