Everything we expected, thought and wanted from the Aincrad arc in both the novel and the anime is precisely what the Sword Art Online Progressive series of light novels delivers. I just finished the transition of the anime SAO of the arc Alicization which was divided into Alicization Beginnig and Alicization War of Underworld, shortly after this was announced what will be the new animated production of SAO along with a short trailer that was shown to us and the same of Sword Art Online Progressive, this news I liked very much and caused me much excitement for the same as for my criterion Progressive is one of the best arcs of this saga for the narrative and history so detailed that gives us. For those who have not read the novels of Progressive I will tell you the basics without spoiler and give my opinion of it.

Something that disappointed us all to a greater or lesser extent was the fact that the great potential of the Aincrad story was so little used, because it was a 100-story castle with a boss in each one. What many of us expected was that the story would be told step by step, as well as the battles against the bosses, even though doing that with the 75 stories that were completed until the end would have been a bit excessive, it wasn't the first time that an anime was extended a lot either. However, everything was developed in only 14 chapters and only the adventures of the floors and battles against the bosses were told, only from the second to the third chapter the story jumps from floor 1 to 11 and in this one the story is told from floor 49. Progressive corrects all this because these novels tell us step by step the beginnings of the game of death as well as the adventures, battles and missions of the second floors of Aincrad in a way as detailed as we all expected it to be at the beginning.

SAO Progressive has its beginning when Kirito and Asuna meet for the first time in the second floor hours before the meeting in the city of Tolbana for the battle against the first chief of the floating castle Aincrad, currently has a total of 6 volumes and the publication of the 7th volume is scheduled for December this year. Throughout these 6 volumes we are told about the missions as well as the progress of both, the different missions they perform to level up and improve their skills as well as we are given a general description of the floors they are in and in a very detailed way the cities or camps they visit. We also discover how the relationship and trust between the two evolves and how they become closer as the story progresses. We are presented in a more detailed way characters that in the anime went unnoticed as for example Argo as well as the origin of skills that they never explained in the novels of the main line or in the anime. In these novels we have a third main character who will be Kizmel a NPC and Dark Elf Knight who belongs to a series of missions called The Great Elf War that extends from the 3rd to the 10th floor, Kizmel has such a unique and special personality that he doesn't look like a NPC but like another player when he even tells us a story about his past and life.

This series of novels, as the author Reki Kawahara himself has said, are part of the official Canon and his idea is that they end up joining the main line perfectly, although it may surprise you to see the closeness and confidence that they get in the second floors in the same way that they end up separating at a point to continue with the story that we already know. Personally, with Progressive I understood several things that left the original novels as well as the anime intrigued. Even though it is not known for sure how long the arc of Progressive will be, one can make some ideas with clues that Reki has left because as he has said, not even he is sure how far he will go, one can think that it will be until the 10th floor where the line of missions of the Great Elvish War ends and with it, say goodbye to a main character.

However in other works parts of the Canon written by the same Reki as for example Hopeful Chant that was published for the movie of Ordinal Scale it is mentioned that they separated in the 20th floor when Asuna decides to enter the guild of KoB, personally I want this story to continue until the 20th floor at least. As an additional fact the idea of creating Progressive came up during the process of animating the first season of SAO when the development team told Reki that there wasn't even the first boss battle and why he wasn't writing it for the anime, after that he continued writing more until the point where he decided to start Sword Art Online Progressive.
