But the truth is that this is not a portrait. It is a tronie, a typical 17th century Dutch pictorial genre meaning "face" or "expression", consisting of the simple representation of the face of an anonymous character that was not intended to be an identifiable portrait and was produced to demonstrate the expertise of an artist (Frank Hals, for example, was an expert in this sub-genre).
Vermeer disguised this mysterious girl in oriental style (turban included) and gave her that famous teardrop-shaped pearl that appears in other of his paintings.

Aunque lo cierto es que este no es un retrato. Se trata de un tronie, un género pictórico típico de la holanda del siglo XVII que significa “rostro” o “expresión”, y que consiste en la simple representación de la cara de un personaje anónimo que no tenían intención de ser un retrato identificable y que se producían para demostrar la pericia de un artista. (Frank Hals por ejemplo era un experto en este sub-género).
Vermeer disfrazó a esta misteriosa chica con estilo oriental (turbante incluido) y le puso esa famosa perla en forma de lágrima que aparece en otros de sus cuadros.

For the idea of the sketch it was relatively easy. Although at first I thought of making his face a little more similar to the original with that oval shape. But I preferred to stay with the rounded shape that I'm used to do in my works.
Para la idea del boceto fue relativamente fácil. Aunque al principio pensé en hacerle su rostro un poco mas parecido al original con esa forma ovalada. Pero preferí quedarme con la forma redondeada que estoy acostumbrado a hacer en mis obras.

For the choice of color for this work, I chose a color palette just a little wider than I usually use, because I mix more shades of colors to achieve that antique artwork look, so I used as you can see; white, yellow and some wine tones.
Para la elección de color de esta obra, elegí una paleta de color solo un poco mas amplia de lo que suelo usar. pues mescle mas tonos de colores para poder lograr esa tura de obra de arte antigua. así que utilice como se aprecia; colores blancos amarillos y algunos tonos vino.

Like for your turban and her clothes, I added some different tones to give the same painting sensation. One of the most difficult parts of the work was to make her eyes look in a forward direction, but in the end I was able to achieve it very well; I liked the result.
Al igual que para tu turbante y su ropa. agregue algunos tonos distinto para dar igualmente esa sensación de pintura. una de las partes mas difíciles de la obra, fue hacer que sus ojos se vieran en dirección hacia al frente pero al final se pudo lograr muy bien; me gusto el resultado.

Finally the background is dark neutral but I wanted to give it a more personal touch and put an elegant wallpaper texture... it gives it a much more presentable touch without losing the essence of the original painting.
Para finalizar el fondo es oscuro neutro pero quise darle un toque mas personal y colocarle una textura de papel tapiz elegante.. le da un toque mucho mas presentable sin perder la esencia del cuadro original.
