The Firebuds of the Forests of Khameelyahn

As if a a bottle-brush tree, a fatal reptile, and a moss got together in the forests of Khameelyahn, and paired up ..

I loved bottle-brush flowers as a child, and of course I saw the idea of a heart representing love.

But I was warned not to get too close to these firebuds, growing on the rock … they dripped a substance that would act on humanoid nerves like fire, and any two were enough to send me as close to Hell as any human could reach before dying.

It was enough to be able to observe them from close enough, as the sun rose and I spotted them clustering close together for warmth on the rock, as you see above.

As the warm golden light of Khameel rose and shone upon the rock, the firebuds spread apart, stretching out their surfaces to capture the heat and showing their appearance … I thought of Albert Einstein with golden moss hairs, and then was a little hungry … they had several pleasant odors by which the two were communicating with each other, and all of them smelled like lovely fruit as they adjusted their positions like quick-moving heliotropes.

But nothing ate these creatures … at least not more than once.

As I passed by again in the evening and the last of Khameel's rays passed from the scene, the two firebuds huddled together again, and gave a lovely fragrance to each other as they prepared to share their heat to pass the night.

I am told that some night in the late, late autumn, they would do that for the last time, but they would close so tightly in their death in the frost that their seed would stay warm enough all winter to slip out alive in the spring, crawl up on a rock, and blossom in the company of its mate, and start the process again.

They would make lovely pets, as Khameel is comparable to Earth's own sun, except that to even touch one is instant death.

So, on the rocks of the forests of Khameelyahn, the firebuds live their yearly love story in peace, year after year, decade after decade, century after century since they were created.

This unusual love story was served up by two sibling fractals made with love in Apophysis 2.09
