DEEP DREAMING WITH BRIDE OF THE WIND

that moan and groan
in whistles and whispers.
This ghostly choir chills the breeze
and orchestrates a rise of goose bumps
on my skin.”

BRIDE OF THE WIND - Deep Dream

Deep Dream stuff: @castleberry put me up to this (indirectly) with his post Artificial Intelligence Augmented Art.

Back in March 2021 I posted a photo of an old painting from the seventies which I thought I had no record of, but somehow found again on a disc: Bride of the Wind. Reading just now again about AI I remembered I had not used Deep Dream much lately (been on that platform since September 2016), so I thought I give it a shot with this re-discovered painting of mine. What you see below is just 2/5 of Level 0 where the original still shows through.

As it happens often with me when I am in a creative mood, I forget to record steps. In this case, I went through a ton of levels before, but didn't save them - I actually recreated the first two (0/5 and 1/5), because what I wound up with in the end was totally unrecognizable, even squinting at it from a distance. ............. who let the dogs out?

While this looks wild, I think too much got lost and it became sort of a mess, imho. Below, the original, and beside it the 0/5 that I started with (on my second try). All the other levels from my first try were not saved. So I started over to make a few more, retracing my steps.

BRIDE OF THE WIND - the original Painting

bride of the wind - LEVEL 1-0.jpg this was the first level of transformation, the titel image was the next step I recorded.

I was interested in retaining the overall look of the work, but with the augmented reality. Sometimes, too much is just .... too much.

I did not save this in High Resolution - but even so, going through a bunch of levels used up quite some generating power. But since I had my second attempt still open (while I write this) I did another one, but with the choice of 'fathomless', so this is what came out:

Bride - Deep Dream Level 2-5.jpg

still somewhat recognizable - if I had started this in high resolution, I might have been tempted to monkey around with it in Photoshop to maybe bring just the face back out a bit. I had done such before, and the results were quite good. I posted that particular one, called 'MY MUSE' already in April 2021 (this info is edited, since initially I said I post it next - I forgot that I already posted it, good thing I checked).

.... and one more time, with the same image, but using one of my old psychedelic drawings as my 'own style':

Bride - Deep Dream psychedelic.jpg

That should do for now. I do have many more templates I use as my own style, but now I need to regenerate my transformation power.

Final thought: I had generated images to be used in videos a few times, one specifically I posted already in the Steemit days, January 2019:

👁‍🗨 ARTISTS EYE - THE MYSTIC 👁‍🗨
it goes through many different styles

Sort:

This was an awesome post and fun to read! I have been known to indirectly put people up to a lot of things! But one thing you will never hear me to have put anyone up to surely, is letting the dogs out! hahahha

I do think it's funny when it adds eyes and animals all over. Sometimes you are going for the serious look and then the puppy dog shows up in the next iteration with 1000 puppydog eyes! Thanks for sharing your experiences here and i didn't save my runs on the Rare Dream i made until i got to the last round. I am a dummy like that because i made the same mistake on the Google Colab notebooks too. hahaha I think with the free account i was running that bad boy through the process for 2 and a half days waiting for charge! So, great job and i look forward to seeing your next presentation!

Thanks - I used this also for a Facebook story, adding music, as well as on Instagram. But today I need to get serious and do some real analog work in the studio (as soon as I get my ass into gear).
BTW, in my comment on your post, I talked about 'My Muse' - again in my post initially I said I post it next, but then found I had posted it already back in April: MY MUSE IN DEEP DREAM TRANSFORMATION.

Man... i was thinking the exact same thing about getting some analogue work done today myself... and i am dragging ass. The coffee needs to kick it. In a way you could say the coffee may be my muse hahha.

I do remember that post and i recall that i found the woman in your original photo quite beautiful. I really like how you went and resized it and returned her beautiful face back into the weirdness that generator had created.

Between you and me - that muse was my ex wife (35 years younger than me). We are still good friends, now continents apart. Maybe the distance helped: we are not fighting anymore, lol. Yes, getting back to work - I am currently painting a portrait of our son, he is 23 now.
a 2008 drawing I made of her, see it on Saatchi Art.

I just noticed that you and i share the same birthday, December the 15th for me 1981. Your ex wife is gorgeous and i could see how she was/is your muse. I am glad that y'all remained friends after all that time. Sometimes, distance does make the heart grow fonder... even if the love has changed. That art you did on Saatchi is incredible. You really captured her essence there! Looking forward to seeing your son's portrait. Good luck and GodSpeed!

I usually try and record steps as well, but not this month, not with #inktober and making a finished piece a day...so I hope I'm forgiven. I always love the richness and layered texture of your pieces. Happy to have found you again here on Hive @thermoplastic Really lovely work.

Thank you Donna, I need to get back to some serious analog work, so today is a studio day.

Hello @thermoplastic. I just love the deep dreaming. It transforms one's already unique design into an ethereal piece.

Thanks for sharing.

it is almost addictive. There are several more levels I took this through, and then it can also be worked on more in Photoshop.
