Hello there! Today we will talk about small picturesque mountain rivers, and more.

Діло було минулого літа. У відпутці ми в основному відпочиваємо активно. Після цілого дня походів по горах на наступний день ми вибираємо релакс. Але і в цей день нам не сидиться на місці.

У цей день ми розділились. Діти поїхали на один водоспад, а ми на інший. Карпатські річки багаті на маленькі водоспади. Наш, як і багато інших в Українських Карпатах, називався Гук. Але якщо вірити Гуглу, той інший теж був Гук. Зрештою, я не вревнена, що ми його знайшли, але емоції і враження все одно отримали.

It was last summer. On vacation, we usually have an active rest. Although, after a whole day of hiking the next day we decided to relax. But even on this day, we do not sit still.

Carpathian rivers have a lot of small waterfalls. We went to see one. Like many others in the Ukrainian Carpathians, it was called Gook (can be translated as a "mix of sounds"). In the end, I'm not surprised that we found him, but we still got emotions and impressions.

Дорога йшла вздовж річки і була дуже мальовнича, подекуди навіть відремонтована. А подекуди навіть дуже розбита, особливо переїзди через річку.

Коли водоспад, до якого ми їхали, був уже зовсім поруч, дорога несподівано закінчилася.

The road ran along the river and was very picturesque, sometimes even repaired. And in some places in a very bad condition, especially river crossing.

When we were almost at the site, the road unexpectedly ended.

Приблизно місяць тому тут були сильні і затяжні дощі, які не припинялись кілька днів. І все це закінчилось великою водою, як кажуть в народі. Тобто повінню. На фото все, що залишилось від моста. Їхати далі не хотілось навіть на позашляховику, адже його ремонт недешевий. Тож ми залишили машину на узбіччі безлюдної дороги і пішки вирушили на пошуки водоспаду.

About a month ago there were heavy and prolonged rains that did not stop for many days. And it all ended with high water, as they say. That's the flood. The photo shows the remains of the bridge. I did not want to drive further, even on our SUV, because its repair is not cheap. So we dropped the car on the side of a deserted road and walked searching the waterfall.

Намагаюсь уявити, як така маленька річечка змогла зруйнувати міст, по якому проїздили автомобілі. І наскільки більшою була сила води нижче по течії, де багато таких потоків зливались в один, все більший і більший.

Я бачила тільки страшні наслідки, вже вдруге в своєму житті. А мама втретє. Коли лихо стосується тебе особисто, це дуже важко пережити перш за все морально. Та й фізично було надзвичайно тяжко. Але пройшов місяць, і всім нам треба було трохи відпочити.

I was trying to imagine how such a small river could destroy the bridge over which cars passed. And how much greater was the force of water downstream, where many such streams merged into one, larger and stronger.

I've seen only terrible consequences, for the second time in my life. And my mom for the third time. When a disaster affects you personally, it is very hard to survive, first of all emotionally. And physically it was extremely difficult. But a month passed, and we all needed a little rest.

Довколішня природа і весь цей каньон неймовірно красивий.

The surroundings are very beautiful.

Але місяць тому тут мабуть було доволі страшно. Стосунки людей і природи завжди були непростими. Мене часто питали - невже це все через вирубку лісу? У нас в Україні було дуже багато незаконно вирубаних ділянок лісів. Про це багато писали. ЗМІ, активісти і звичайні люди стали на захист лісу.

But I guess a month ago it was frightening here. The relationship between people and nature has always been complicated. I was often asked - is it all because of deforestation? Coz we had a lot of illegally felled forests in Ukraine. Much has been written about this. The media, activists and ordinary people came to the defense of the forest.

Господар садиби, де ми зупинились, розказував, що на власній ділянці зрубати дерево дуже складно. Потрібен час, дозволи. А на ділянках лісництв (тобто державних) все відбувається швидше і простіше, і не завжди легально.

Ми всі знаємо, що дерева утримують багато води і корінням, і кроною. І масові незаконні вирубки звичайно впливають на нашу екосистему. Але причини набагато складніші і комплексніші. Можна сказати, що причиною повеней є поганий стан господарства.

Вирубку можна проводити так, щоб вона не наносила шкоду природі. А ще змінити норми відповідно до кліматичних змін, які уже сталися. А ще не забудовувати заплави і регулювати греблі. А ще якість будівництва, водовідводи, сміття, а ще... а ще... Але чи почує хтось наші тихенькі голоси?...

The owner of the estate where we stayed said that it was very difficult to cut down a tree on his own plot. It takes time, permission. And in the areas of forestry (i.e. state) everything is faster and easier, and not always legally.

It is a well-known fact that trees hold a lot of water with both roots and crown. And mass illegal logging usually affects our ecosystem. But the reasons are much more complex. We can say that the cause of floods is the poor state of our economy.

Повернемось до відпустки. Якщо водоспад десь і був, то дійти до нього можна було тільки по руслу річки. Добре, що зараз вона мілка, та все одно палицю треба мати.

But back to vacation. If the waterfall was somewhere here, it could be reached only along the river. It's good that she's small now, but you still need a stick.

Ми пройшли зовсім небагато, коли натрапили на ось такий мальовничий куточок. Не знаю, чи був це той водоспад, який ми шукали, скоріш за все ні, але далі пішки по камяному дну в крижаній воді йти не хотілось.

We passed very little distance when came across such a picturesque site. I don't know if it was the waterfall we were looking for, most likely not, but I didn't want to walk further along the stone bottom in the icy water.

Вода була чиста і дуже спокуслива, не настільки, щоб я полізла у воду, але чоловік все ж поліз. Йому в горах подобається геть усе, навіть таке купання :)

The water was clean and very tempting, but not enough to make me bathing, unlike my hubby. He likes everything in the mountains, even such swimming :)

А я просто стою... Можна бескінечно довго дивитись на те, як тече вода... слухати шум маленького водоспаду, насолоджуватись грою світла і тіні та неймовірними кольорами. Треба увібрати цю мить в себе якомога більше, щоб потім у такий день, як сьогодні, ці спогади зігріли мене знову.

As for me, I was just standing ... You can watch the water flow for an infinitely long time ... listen to the noise of a small waterfall, enjoy the play of light and shadow and incredible colors. I need to absorb this moment as much as possible, so that later on a day like today, these memories will make me smile warm again.

Дорогою назад здавалось, що щось всередині мене трішечки змінилось... І хоч не всі мости постраждали, є над чим подумати...

On the way back, it seemed that something inside me had changed a little ... And although not all the bridges were damaged, there is something to think about ...
