A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words || From Winter to Summer

What Do You See?

On the streets of a city, cars are packed on the right and a fence on the left. A woman, I think moves on the pedestrian walkway aided by her automated wheelchair. The sun is mild, casting a shadow on the pedestrian walkway.

What Do You Feel?

Determination. It is morning and everyone is going to work despite their state. I feel a sense of duty. A desire to accomplish the day’s goals whether the odds are in favour or not.

A Short Story

Anita and Ayesha were coming for the holiday. This was the highlight of the winter for Mrs. Caroline. Her granddaughters were what made the cold night of the winter bearable. Tucking them in bed was her delight she enjoyed every moment with them.
“Look granny it's Santa Claus,” Ayesha said as she stood by the glass windows. Anita quickly left her toys and ran for the window to see the supposed Santa Claus and to her, it was coming closer to the house. Soon there was a knock and two presents were then left at the door with both the names of the girls written bold one on each.

As both girls frantically ripped the gift wrap off their presents Mrs. Caroline looked from the kitchen with joy. Even if she knew that her daughter will be back as soon as the holidays were over to take back for school she still savored every moment. Mrs. Caroline and her daughter Jane even took the girls out for a party in the next neighbourhood where the girls soiled their clothes with cake and icing.

“granny, tell us a story,” Anita said as Mrs. Caroline was about to turn off the light. She went back, moving her wheelchair to the aisle that divided the bed of the girls as she narrated the story of young Pinocchio. She was almost done when Ayesha asked “does that mean if we tell lies, our noses will grow”. Mrs. Caroline smiled and said “No, but you will look funny like someone with a long nose”, The girls looked at each other “You don’t want to have a long nose do you?” she asked, as they both nodded in disapproval. Then she bid them goodnight and left them half asleep.

The girls kept her kitchen warm as there was always something cooking or steaming in the kitchen for them. So when her daughter Jane called that they weren’t coming for summer vacation she decided to go visit them instead. She got up early and made all the preparations she needed then headed for the bus station. The sun was already up as she slowly moved through the pedestrian walkway with the automated wheelchair she thought of how the girls would stuff the fresh cookie she had baked for them.
