"Is there another reason?"
"No."
"I think there is. I think there's another reason that you don't want to write about them."
"No."
"Do you know anything about fireflies?"
"I don't know."
"Didn't you learn about it in your class?"
"Yes. Sort of."
"Sort of? What do you mean sort of?"
"Our teacher told us everything about fireflies."
"So what's the problem then?"
"I wasn't listening."
"Why not? Why weren't you listening?"
"I was thinking of other things."
"But, if your teacher is talking, that has to be more important than the other things that you were thinking about. I bet you were thinking about football."
"How did you know?"
"Or your computer games?"
"How did you know?"
"Didn't the teacher know that you weren't listening?"
"No."
"Surely, your teacher should be checking."
"No. All we need to do is pretend to listen."
"I don't like this. You have to learn. What are we going to do about this?"
"I'm going to be a teacher."
Thank you for reading. This story is kind of based on true events (nothing to do with fireflies). Everyone has different skills and different ways of learning.
Even older intelligent adults may struggle if someone is just talking for very long periods. Learning has to be interactive and fun. I'd like to think that we have evolved over the past 40 years.

Today, I had 2 hours spare. I decided to find the recent freewrite prompts that I missed and do a bit of a catch-up.
Good point about learning. Now kids are expected to sit and listen to a computer screen. Here, you don't even have to search for today's prompt to get "caught up" to today.
