Here we are

-You saw what this news says, it tells of a group of people who couldn't make it, they were assaulted on the way, everything was taken from them, what is not very clear is who did it?

-Stop reading that, it only brings bad memories; you remember Alberto, yes, the neighbor who convinced our children to leave, as if things were so easy, now where are they, no news, nothing, that is why we look in the newspapers, to see if something tells us, it has been several years since then, we only have this habit of sitting here, to look at the newspaper, to see news that only prolongs the pain in our souls, we are alone, old woman.

-I remember Mr. Fabian, so kind and generous when we came here to town, we were so tired, walking and walking, the people received us with kindness and here they grew up, Enrique was already born, not so Raquel, she was born and grew up in this town, they also learned to play baseball with the boys from the neighborhood, it was a very quiet town, Mr. Fabian gave us that piece of land, so we could build our house, we were so poor, we don't have much, but we were happy in spite of everything.

-I remember when the boys came to ask for permission for Enrique to play baseball with them, of course they did, I told them, there is no problem, but my son doesn't have gloves, don't worry, they told us that they would get them for him, there are some old ones that they give us there in the city, they are used, but they work, then Enrique learned to play and also to dream, you remember he said he wanted to go to the big leagues and us, but son, first you go through the little leagues here in this country, yes dad, I know that? but now where is he, what league is he playing in, if he is still playing, Enrique has vanished, there is no news, there is nothing, old lady, I miss you, I miss you both.

-That Alberto started to put things in her head, that we were going to live better, that they would work and play over there, by the way, he took my daughter Raquel, now where are they, not even a blessed telephone number, we have nothing, only memories.

-You are crying old lady, calm down, that hurts you, it's not that I resigned myself old lady, that can't happen, but in all this pile of newspaper sheets we have seen in all these years, there is nothing of our children, we haven't even heard stories on the way, that tell us anything, no one of the others that have left, bring any news, there is nothing, we are alone old lady.

-We should have stayed in that big city, maybe things would have been more difficult, but maybe we would have been all together, the whole family, now old man, we only have to pray at night, our hides are getting wrinkled, the body is not the same, at any moment you and I will end up leaving and whoever is left, what is going to happen old man?

-Old lady, at least in this town they love us, the neighbors visit us, we have friends, you see, there is always someone in the house to have coffee with, to spend the afternoon with, maybe play a little dominoes and you can chat, you can talk with your friends, we are not alone, we only come here at this time of the day, because we have got into the blessed habit of buying the newspaper and coming to read it, to see if anyone says anything about those who have left, to find out what is happening in the country, in the world, but we already know that they are not going to say anything about our children, we don't even know what has happened to them.

-Old man I dream of seeing them come, that they will bring us the grandchildren and see the big family, how happy I would be, but well, we have to go on living, until God wills it old man, at least there are you and me, so many things we have been through together! and here we are, even if it is just reading the newspaper and crying, crying together, why is that what we do! right, old man?

-Yes, old lady, here we are, and the most certain thing is that here we will always be fertilizing this land, because this is the place we chose to be together, old lady, we'd better go, I'm getting hungry, a hot coffee wouldn't go amiss at this hour.

I loved to read the discussion (behind the newspapers) between this couple.
