Bhagvad Gita: Life Lessons to Live by #2

The Bhagvad Gita (in Sanskrit) which translates to "The Song of God" is a Hindu Scripture that is a part of Mahabharata epic and authored by Vyasa.

It is a dialogue that takes place between Arjuna (prince) and Krishna (his guide and charioteer) at the start of a war between Pandavas and Kauravas.

It actually depicts the war and dilemma that goes on in the mind of people in everyday lives through a war scenario between the Pandavas (Dharma) and Kauravas (Adharma).

I'm currently reading The Bhagvad Gita according to Gandhi as it is one of the simplified versions and is very easy to understand.

I read a few pages of Chapter 2 yesterday and here are some key takeaways:

We have no right to point an accusing finger at others. We should point out the lapses of our own people first.

There should be no distinction between one's relations and others. If one must kill, one should kill one's people first.

In life, when there's a dispute between two people, we tend to take the side of the person whom we know (our relations) even when he is wrong.

According to Gita, we should take the side of the truth even if it means pointing out the wrong doings of our own people. Here the word kill is not to be taken literally.

Even if we believe in non-violence, it would not be proper for us to refuse, through cowardice, to protect the weak.

The meaning of the Gita on common sense level is that once we have plunged into a battle, we should go on fighting. One ought not to give up the task one has undertaken. -Gandhi

When you start something, go all in. Give it your 100% or not get into it at all. Once you start, there's no point in doing it half heartedly. It's as good as not doing anything at all.

I'm guilty of starting something with full enthusiasm and losing interest in between and then not giving my best into the task. When you're in a team and this happens, you are not valued by your team mates. Nothing hurts more than that. One would've been better off not getting into it in thur first place. This is something that I learned about myself that I need to work on.

Sort:

We all have been through situations, where we have gotten into some endeavor and then called it quits.
The mistake we do is not planning. If we plan and analyze, we can save ourselves from getting in situations we don't like.

One great example - love relationships I feel.

Rightly said bro. I had done this mistake when I got into multiple jobs at once due to which I started getting less and less sleep which declined my health and had made me weak.
