Lifting the Raschborne Steels

Glassy hues of light shone off of the dew-covered grass and ferns, the sun breaking through the forest’s thick canopy. Yowls from hungry kits and chirps from promiscuous birds filled the air, the occasional rustling in the undergrowth bringing the hidden life of the woods to turn.

“Are you ready?” asked Brianne to Gwyn, her feet crunching the loose twigs coating the woodland path.

“I think so,” Gwyn took a deep breath. “A morning walk is what took Geraint Gwyrdd to his legendary heights. I hope it works for me.”

Brianne wrapped her hand around Gwyn’s arm. It was covered by a thin raincoat, but she could still feel his massive muscles threatening to break the fabric.

“I know you can do it,” Brianne said. “The Raschborne Steels…” She contemplated the feat Gwyn would be undertaking: lifting huge metal boulders and placing them in a special magical housing. Doing so would grant wondrous blessings to the successful, provided it was done on the first day of Spring. The only problem was that they each weighed nearly 500kg each, and they were almost perfectly spherical. Adventurers and Kings alike tried their hands each year, and most left embarrassed and meek in the face of the herculean task. The last known person that was successful was Geraint Gwyrdd, a local boy, nearly two centuries ago. With the power granted to him he went on to be one of the most well-known beast slayers, and is credited with severing the great hills of Orr, that were in actuality a slumbering gigantoise.

Gwyn tugged Brianne along by the arm, and they continued their walk through the woods.
