My grandma's room has this exact same problem. We applied an acrylic waterproofing system but it was still leaking. So maybe adding the cloth and covering like yours would help. I'll suggest this next time they're fixing it 😃

Remember, this acrylic needs to be protected from water while it cures. You need about 5 sunny days depending on the humidity level where you are.
It might be worth while covering it with something temporary to shield it while it dries.
