The Shroud of Turin Exhibit on Resurrection Sunday in Volcan, Panama

in Pinmapple2 years ago

Our little town in the mountains of Panama had a very interesting exhibit that we were able to see on Resurrection Sunday. We had been wanting to see it the day before, but the timing didn't work out. I am so glad it worked out the way it did and we were able to go on Resurrection Sunday!

If you don't know about the Shroud of Turin, it is believed to be the cloth that Jesus' body was wrapped in when he was placed in the tomb. When he rose from the dead, it was folded and placed where his body was in the tomb. This cloth has been tested by many scientists to check its authenticity.

When my husband was about 12 years old, his parents took him to a mall near where we grew up to see a similar exhibit.

I knew we had to go when it was available in our town. I had no idea it would be as interesting as it was!

The woman who was our tour guide spoke excellent English. That was a plus - we were able to learn a lot more than if it had only been in Spanish! Her husband was one of the scientists who tested the shroud. She has met all of the other scientists and knows a great deal about the shroud. She also has traveled all over the world to talk and learn more about it. She was the owner of the exhibit we saw, and she said she plans to show it next year to the schools.

The shroud that we saw was a replica. It is a smaller size than the original as well. She talked to us about all of the 3-D imaging that has been done and all the tests they have run on the shroud. They can even tell what kind of blood was on it, where the stripes would have been on the body, and various other characteristics due to testing the fabric.

She encouraged the kids to participate in the exhibit by touching pretty much everything, including the statue and some of the 3-D images. It was interesting the way the images popped off the photo when you ran your hand up them! She even had @panamapilgrim take the photos off the wall so the kids (including @apanamakid) could get closer to them.

We were able to see a replica of the crown of thorns also. Most people just picture it as a single ring around his head. I had never thought of it looking this way either, so that was interesting to learn.

If you ever get a chance to visit a Shroud of Turin exhibit, I highly recommend it! And if you're in Volcan next year around Resurrection Sunday, I will make sure to take you to see this exhibit and meet the guide! It was a blessed way to celebrate Resurrection Sunday - learning the cloth was folded, which means He would come back! Maranatha!
