One of the places that I have visited the most in recent years is Patagonia (Argentine and Chilean). Huge spaces, a steppe that seems endless.
Backpack on my shoulder, tent just in case I can't find a place to stay and have to do it under the stars and the adventure begins.
I made this trip in 2017 and one of the most beautiful places I visited was the Cueva de las Manos.
These are my impressions accompanied by the photos that I managed to obtain.
Uno de los lugares que más he visitado en los últimos años es la Patagonia (argentina y chilena). Enormes espacios, una estepa que parece interminable.
Mochila al hombro, carpa por las dudas que no encuentre un lugar donde hospedarme y tenga que hacerlo bajo las estrellas y la aventura comienza.
Este viaje lo realicé en el año 2017 y uno de los lugares más bellos que visité fue la Cueva de las Manos.
Estas son mis impresiones acompañadas por las fotos que logré obtener.
The Cueva de las Manos is an archaeological site designated ** World Heritage Site ** by UNESCO in 1999 for its characteristics and its state of conservation.
The paintings represent the first hunter gatherers of Patagonia. The hands actually represent different periods and their own evolution.
Regarding the meaning of these rock incisions, there are two clearly defined theories.
One maintains that it was a kind of ritual in which all the families were grouped.
The other, on the other hand, supports a sense of belonging. Like leaving a sign of the place they lived.
La Cueva de las Manos es un sitio arqueológico designado Patrimonio Mundial de la Humanidad por la UNESCO en el año 1999 por sus características y su estado de conservación.
Las pinturas representan los primeros cazadores recolectores de la Patagonia. Las manos en realidad representan distintos períodos y su propia evolución.
Respecto al significado estas incisiones rupestres han dos teorías claramente definidas.
Uno sostiene que era una especie de ritual en el que se agrupaban todas las familias.
La otra, en cambio, sostiene un sentido de apartenencia. Como dejar una señal del lugar que habitaban.
This sector is the most representative in terms of the number and variety of hands.
There is a lot of variety in the size of the hands and in some stones the left hands are clearly differentiated from the right hands.
Este sector es el más representativo en cuanto a la cantidad y variedad de manos.
Hay mucha variedad en el tamaño de las manos y en algunas piedras están claramente diferenciadas las manos izquierdas de las manos derechas.
We are talking about the first populations of Patagonia, more than 12,000 years ago.
The oldest paintings are 9,300 years old.
A surprising detail is the perfect preservation of the condition of the paintings, both in terms of their integrity and the sharpness of their colors.
In that sense, the protection agreed by UNESCO when naming them a World Heritage Site has contributed a lot to this.
Estamos hablando de las primeras poblaciones de Patagonia, hace más de 12.000 años.
Las pinturas más antiguas son de 9.300 años.
Un detalle que sorprende es la perfecta conservación del estado de las pinturas, ya sea en cuanto a la integridad de las mismas como a la nitidez de sus colores.
En ese sentido la protección acordada por la UNESCO al nombrarlas Patrimonio de la Humanidad ha contribuído mucho a ello.
The technique used to make these paintings was that of a hollowed bone.
At one end they put paint with different shades of ocher mixed with plaster and on the other side they blew.
Another of the techniques used was putting the paint in the mouth and then blowing.
This conclusion has been reached thanks to some incisions (or negatives such is the word used) with images of this type.
La técnica usada para efectuar estas pinturas era la de un hueso ahuecado.
En un extremo ponían la pintura con distintas tonalidades de ocre mezclada con yeso y del otro lado soplaban.
Otras de las técnicas usadas era colocarse la pintura en la boca y luego soplar.
Se ha llegado a esta conclusión gracias a algunas incisiones (o negativos tal es ela palabra usada) con imágenes de este tipo.
There are also rudimentary paintings showing animals.
Although in this case it would not seem that they had achieved the perfection they had in painting hands.
For example, in the one we see below, there is a guanaca feeding its young.
And next to it guanacos eating grass in the Patagonian steppe.
También hay pinturas rudimentales mostrando animales.
Aunque en este caso no parecería que hubieran logrado la perfección que tenían en pintar manos.
Por ejemplo en la que vemos a continuación hay una guanaca alimentando a su cría.
Y al lado guanacos comiendo hierba en la estepa patagónica.
Also present are images that represent hunting scenes.
They probably show how they lived and the form and techniques they used to hunt and procure food in order to survive in very harsh conditions of climate and environment.
Let us remember that only bushes and shrubs grow in the Patagonian steppe near the Atlantic Ocean.
También está presentes imágenes que representan escenas de cacería.
Probablemente muestren como ellos vivían y la forma y ténicas que usaban para cazar y procurse el alimento para poder sobrevivir en condiones muy rigurosas de clima y de ambiente.
Recordemos que en la estepa patagónica cercana al Océano Atlántico crecen solo matas y arbustos.
It is surprising not only the excellent state of conservation of the paintings and the quantity but also the extraordinary natural environment that surrounds them.
The Pinturas River Canyon is the ideal complement.
Sorprende no solo el excelente estado de conservación de las pinturas y la cantidad sino también el extraordinario entorno natural que las rodea.
El Cañón del Rio Pinturas es el cmplemento ideal.
