Throwback Thursday
It's Thursday, and weekend once again in this part of the world. Since there's nowhere to go, let's just look back to some of the photos I have saved in my gallery from the times when we can travel between Emirates with ease (i.e. not having to present a negative Covid test at the border).
The Last Exit
Called so because it is literally located at the last exit between Dubai and Abu Dhabi. It is a food truck park where you can choose to take a break from the not-so-long drive (around 200kms).
There are four Last Exit locations - AUH (Abu Dhabi) Bound, DXB (Dubai Bound), Al Khawaneej, and Al Qudra. Today, let us just go on a V-tour to Mad X Last Exit AUH Bound.
Last Exit AUH Bound is located at Sheikh Zayed Road E11, just before the border to Abu Dhabi. This serves fast food - sandwiches, burgers, pancakes, coffee, karak, etc. You can opt to drive through the food trucks, or choose to dine in and stretch your arms and legs for a while.
Post- Apocalyptic Theme
It was our first time and the weather was nice, so we decided to park our car and take our time walking around the area. It has a post-apocalyptic theme, with abandoned cars, war rigs and monster trucks! Apart from that, there is also a play area for kids.
Wait, not sure how long this car has been abandoned here. Plants have already grown around and on it!
War rigs here and there. Survival is the name of the game.
Of course, survival means food! Order your favorite burger from one of the food trucks, but make sure you are always on a look-out. There are lots of options to choose from.
Fancy some burgers? There's Burger Pit, Jonny Rockets, and the Stuffed Burger. Hot drinks or cold drinks? Starbucks, Cupagahwa, Il Caffe di Roma or My Karak - for sure there's something for you.
The wide parking area will give you a view of the whole place.
There are seats outdoors, but knowing how bright and hot the summer days could be, it would be a good idea to stay indoors.
Nope, not just a pile of trucks and tyres. It is where you get to enjoy your food too...
... provided that car does not fall on top of your head!
It does not end there...
All right. You survived your meal, and you now have the energy to sustain you until you reach your destination.
But wait! What if nature calls?
Maybe we can "relieve" ourselves behind these buses?
There!
Here's the toilet...
...which you have to "enter at your own risk".
Let me tell you, it was crazy going inside. At one point, I thought I'd not be able to come out.
All these pipes and "worn out" faucets - are these even working?
We Survived!
Whew! We made it to the exit. We can now get back on our track and head to our destination.

I'm not someone who enjoys long drives, but since we have been stuck at home for many months now, I can't help but look forward to the time when we can travel around again. Hopefully soon.
