A MAGICAL PLACE: THE ABBEY OF SAN GALGANO ⛪️

Good morning Haveyoubeenhere community, today I would like to tell you about a lovely place, it is at the same time a "lost" and magical place. It is the Abbey of San Galgano which is located in Tuscany in the municipality of Chiusdino about 30 km from Siena. I managed to visit her, during a business trip, with my brother @ilpaso last fall, before the second closure due to COVID pandemic. I was really fascinated by it already only for the place where it is located, dispersed among the hills and nature Tuscany and then for its beauty.

About the story

The abbey was built in the early 1200s and finished around 1268 then at the end of the year 200 was consecrated but after a hundred years began its decline, for historical reasons such as the plague and the crisis that led the monks to leave the abbey around the end of the fifteenth century.
Clearly the abandonment also led to the decline of the abbey which was left to ruin until the end of the eighteenth century, when the restoration began.

Today the abbey is a museum, you can visit it any day of the year and the cost of the ticket is only 4€.
Also you can book the place for the ceremonies and the abbey is all set up in a very suggestive way, definitely a magical place to celebrate a wedding.

During my visit I was very impressed by its structure, the lack of coverage, the absence of windows, the facade with the rose window open, all this goes to create a wonderful play of lights, Personal advice visit in spring or autumn and choosing a sunny day, to avoid too hot summer or cold and winter rain.

I think it is a stop in a trip to Tuscany, combines both culture and nature, also nearby you can stop to eat something typical, My brother and I stayed in a deli along the road that leads to Siena and we ate meats and cheeses typical of the area, accompanied then by a good glass of Tuscan wine.

Amazing that this is surviving time - a restored ruin.
Makes me think of a monastery I visited in Portugal - partially finished, but some areas left unfinished to this day: Mosteiro da Batalha

Yes that is amazing, i saw the picture of the monastery in portugal, and it is very beautiful too, i hope to be able to visit it.

I have done 3 installments on my Portugal visit, this would be the fourth, if I ever get around to it - most recent, already some time ago, was Obidos

It's a wonderful mystical place, nice Post, !WINE
