It's been a really long time since the last post I published, I'm sorry I disappeared like this, but I've been very busy, in these two months I've become the mother of a beautiful little girl! I never told you about my pregnancy in the posts because they were always focused on something else, on travel, art and photography and I didn't want to dwell on non-inherent things. Now, however, I also want to make you participate in this beautiful event also to apologize for the long wait for the publication of this post!I hope to be able to be more present because life as a mother is demanding and I'm not used to it yet!

E’ passato davvero molto tempo dall’ultimo post che ho pubblicato, mi dispiace essere sparita così, ma sono stata molto impegnata, in questi due mesi sono diventata mamma di una bellissima bambina! Non vi ho mai parlato della mia gravidanza nei post perchè erano incentrati sempre su altro, su viaggi arte e fotografia e non volevo dilungarmi su cose non inerenti. Adesso però rendo partecipi anche voi di questo bellissimo evento anche per scusarmi della lunga attesa nella pubblicazione di questo post!

But now we come to the subject of this post: I have decided to tell you about the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento.As you can read from Goethe's quote, this place was immediately a destination for scholars, Goethe himself is in fact visiting it during his Grand Tour, a journey that young scholars made in Western Europe. And he in his book talks about the wonders of this place.
I was in Agrigento last year, (unfortunately this year with the pregnancy it was impossible for me to make long trips) at this time of the year and I can confirm that this place is wrapped in a sphere of wonder.
Ma veniamo ora all’argomento di questo post: ho deciso di parlarvi della Valle dei Templi di Agrigento. Come potete leggere dalla citazione di Goethe, questo luogo è stato da subito meta di studiosi, lo stesso Goethe infatti si trova a visitarlo durante il suo Grand Tour, viaggio che i giovani eruditi compivano nell’Europa Occidentale. E lui nel suo libro parla delle meraviglie di questo luogo.
Sono stata ad Agrigento lo scorso anno, ( purtroppo quest'anno con la gravidanza è stato per me impossibile fare viaggi lunghi ) proprio in questo periodo dell’anno e posso confermarvi che questo luogo è avvolto da una sfera di meraviglia.
Agrigento is a city in south-western Sicily, famous throughout the world for the ruins of the ancient city of Akragas and the Valley of the Temples. During my holiday in Sicily I managed to visit the latter, I decided with my partner to do the evening visit, given the high temperatures during the day and I must say that it was the right choice despite the archaeological park being crowded in the evening.
Agrigento è una città della Sicilia sud occidentale, famosa in tutto il mondo per per le rovine dell'antica città di Akragas e la Valle dei Templi. Durante la mia vacanza in Sicilia sono riuscita a visitare quest’ultima, ho deciso insieme al mio compagno di fare la visita serale, viste le alte temperature durante il giorno e devo dire che è stata la scelta più giusta nonostante il parco archeologico sia affollato di sera.
About the history
The city was founded by the Greeks in 580 BC. (I remember that Sicily was part of Magna Graecia) and during the fifth century it had a significant building expansion, with the construction of the walls to protect the city. There were then a series of military campaigns and some defeats that led to the decay of the city.
In 262 A.D. It became part of the Roman domain and remained there until its decline during the seventh century, which led to the abandonment of both the city and the area of the temples.
La città viene fondata dai Greci nel 580 a.C. ( ricordo che la Sicilia faceva parte della Magna Grecia ) e nel corso del V secolo ebbe un’espansione edilizia notevole, con la costruzione della cinta muraria a protezione della città. Ci furono poi una serie di campagne militari e alcune sconfitte che portarono al decadimento della città.
Nel 262 d.C. entra a far parte del dominio romano e vi rimane fino alla decadenza nel corso del VII secolo, che porta all’abbandono sia della città che dell’area dei templi.
The archaeological park of the Valley of the Temples is characterized by the remains of eleven Doric-style temples, some sanctuaries, necropolis, public works, meeting places and fortifications. The park is 1300 hectares large and therefore those who plan to visit it must equip themselves with comfortable shoes, I wore sandals and I was unable to see it all due to sore feet.
Il parco archeologico della Valle dei templi è caratterizzato dai resti di undici templi in stile dorico, alcuni santuari, necropoli, opere pubbliche, luoghi di riunione e fortificazioni. Il parco è grande ben 1300 ettari e quindi chi pensa di visitarlo deve attrezzarsi con scarpe comode, io indossavo dei sandali e non sono riuscita a vederlo tutto a causa del mal di piedi.
One of the main and most famous temples is that of Concordia of the fifth century. , named by Goethe himself, is a peripteral temple with a double cell in antis and, together with the Parthenon, is one of the best preserved in the world. Right in front of the temple was placed the statue of the Polish artist Igor Mitoraj depicting fallen Icarus.
Uno dei templi principali e più famosi è quello della Concordia del V sec. , nominato dallo stesso Goethe, è un tempio periptero con doppia cella in antis ed è insieme al Partenone uno dei migliori conservati al mondo. Proprio di fronte al tempio è stata posta la statua dell’artista polacco Igor Mitoraj che raffigura Icaro caduto.
I hope I have enticed you to visit this wonderful archaeological park and its city, and once in Sicily, I recommend, you cannot fail to taste the Sicilian Cannolo, a typical dessert of the island.
