Hello Hive community, here we are with the second and last part of my trip to Tuscany. This post took a long time to wait and I apologize, but it is always difficult to find some time to write.
In any case, today I finally managed to carve out some time to continue the journey in the wonderful Tuscany made with my brother @ilpaso last fall.
In this post we will talk about what I saw in the cities of Grosseto and Siena.
Buongiorno Hive community, eccoci qui con la seconda e ultima parte del mio viaggio in Toscana. Questo post si è fatto molto attendere e mi scuso, ma è sempre difficile trovare un po’ di tempo per poter scrivere.
Ad ogni modo oggi finalmente sono riuscita a ritagliare del tempo per poter proseguire il viaggio nella meravigliosa Toscana fatto con mio fratello @ilpaso lo scorso autunno.
In questo post parleremo di ciò che ho visto nelle città di Grosseto e Siena.
Grosseto
The city of Grosseto is located in the plain called Maremma and only 15/20 km from the sea, it is surrounded by medieval walls, our b & b was located right near the walls, in fact by opening the window of the room you were directly on the promenade above the walls.
There are numerous monuments in the city, some of civil architecture such as the Palazzo Aldobrandeschi, from the early 1900s, also called Palazzo della Provincia located in Piazza Dante and near the Cathedral of San Lorenzo (Duomo). Another monument of great importance is the Cathedral itself, built on the foundations of an old church between the end of 1200 and the beginning of 1300.
The façade has a two-tone color scheme of white and red, forms tending to the Gothic and a large central rose window with large sculptures on the sides.
It is a very interesting city, certainly worth visiting, but unlike the city of Siena, I found it less fascinating.
La città di Grosseto si trova nella pianura denominata Maremma e a soli 15/20 km dal mare, è circondata da mura di età Medievale, il nostro b&b si trovava proprio in prossimità delle mura, infatti aprendo la finestra della stanza ci si trovava direttamente sulla passeggiata sopra le mura.
Numerosi sono i monumenti presenti nella città, alcuni di architettura civile come ad esempio il Palazzo Aldobrandeschi, dei primi del ‘900, detto anche Palazzo della provincia ubicato in piazza Dante e in prossimità della Cattedrale di San Lorenzo ( Duomo ). Altro monumento di grande importanza è proprio il Duomo, costruito, sulle fondamenta di un vecchio edificio di culto, tra la fine del 1200 e l’inizio del 1300.
La facciata vede una bicromia di bianco e rosso, forme tendenti al gotico e un grande rosone centrale con ai lati grandi sculture.
E’ una città molto interessante, sicuramente da visitare, ma a differenza della città di Siena, l’ho trovata meno affascinante.
Siena
Immediately after Scansano we reached Siena, the city is located in the central area of Tuscany and is mainly built on a hilly landscape.
The city center was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and is then known throughout the world for its famous Palio.
Unfortunately we didn't have time to visit the buildings inside, for example the famous cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta (the city's cathedral).
The construction is in Romanesque-Gothic style, and around the beginning of the 1200s. The plan of the building is a Latin cross with three naves, while the façade is two-colored between white and red marble. The lower part is very sumptuous with three large fully decorated portals and was built by Giovanni Pisano. The upper part instead sees a rose window that opens in the center and golden mosaic decorations in the cusps.
Subito dopo Scansano abbiamo raggiunto Siena, la città si trova nella zona centrale della Toscana ed è costruita principalmente su un paesaggio collinare.
Il centro della città è stato dichiarato patrimonio dell’UNESCO, è poi conosciuta in tutto il mondo per il suo famoso Palio.
Purtroppo non abbiamo avuto tempo per visitare gli edifici all’interno, ad esempio la famosa cattedrale di Santa Maria Assunta ( Duomo della città ).
La costruzione è in stile romanico-gotico, e circa di inizio 1200. La pianta dell’edificio è a croce latina con tre navate, la facciata invece bicromia tra marmo bianco e rosso. E’ molto sfarzosa la parte inferiore vede tre grandi portali completamente decorati e fu realizzata da Giovanni Pisano. La parte superiore vede invece un rosone che si apre al centro e decorazioni dorate in mosaico nelle cuspidi.
The main square of the city is called Piazza del Campo and has a very particular shape: it resembles a shell. It is known all over the world because the famous Palio takes place right here, a competition of medieval origin that sees the various districts of Siena "collide".
At the bottom of the square is the Town Hall with the Torre dei Mangia, the first is from the late 1200s while the tower was built in the early 1300s.
La piazza principale della città è chiamata piazza del Campo ed ha una forma veramente particolare: ricorda una conchiglia. E’ conosciuta in tutto il mondo perchè proprio qui si svolge il famoso Palio, una competizione di origine medievale che vede “scontrarsi” le varie contrade di Siena.
Sul fondo della piazza si trova il Palazzo comunale con la Torre dei Mangia, il primo è di fine 1200 mentre la torre fu costruita nei primi anni del 1300.
In my opinion it is one of the most beautiful cities in Tuscany, I regret not being able to visit it as it deserves, but I am sure to come back to be able to deepen the visit.

Beautiful cities. Tuscany is the part of Italy I want to visit the most. Particularly the legendary picturesque hilly countryside :)
