Were a man to spend only one day in Sicily and ask, "What must one see?" I would answer him without hesitation, "Taormina." It is only a landscape, but a landscape where you find everything on earth that seems made to seduce the eyes, the mind and the imagination.

Hi Hive friends here I am, today in this new post I will tell you about a city that I visited last summer and that has remained in my heart. I hope you like it too much and that it makes you want to visit it.

Last summer I visited the city of Taormina, located on the east coast of Sicily. I went here with the intention of visiting its ancient theater. Being an archaeologist I was intrigued by this ancient Greco-Roman structure still in operation today. In fact, numerous theatrical and musical performances are held inside the theater.

Once I arrived, I visited the city, immersed myself in the colors of the historic center, an ancient city that was founded in 358 BC. by the Greeks with the name of Tauromenion and is one of the oldest colonies of Magna Graecia. The city was then conquered by the Romans, Normans and finally the Spaniards, and each domination has left different traces, which is why the city is so rich in charm and colors.

The symbol par excellence of the city is the ancient theater, one of the most important in Magna Graecia after that of Syracuse (which I will go to see in July, so get ready for a future post on that too). The theater, like any Greek theater, rests the cavea on the slope. Later, both the Greeks and the Romans, during the construction of monuments, tried to make the most of the territory, to use the least number of raw materials and waste of energy. The theater has a breathtaking view, in fact the spectators sitting in the auditorium to watch the show were in front of one of the best views in all of Sicily. In fact, in the distance you can see both the Calabrian coast and the Ionian coast and also Mount Etna with its smoking peak.

Another place to visit is the Trevelyan park, now the park of the municipality of Taormina, but initially owned by Lady Florence Trevelyan, an English noblewoman. Which tomb is still located within the park and precisely in the highest tower of the structure. The park is very large, full of vegetation and offers truly unmissable sea views.
