ho deciso di fare alcuni articoli sulla mia recente vacanza in Calabria e di mostrarvi alcune delle sue meraviglie. La Calabria è ancora una regione poco turistica ma possiede un potenziale veramente notevole e spero che attraverso i miei articoli riusciate a vederlo.

I decided to do some articles about my recent vacation in Calabria to show you some of its wonders. Calabria is still not a touristic region but it has a truly remarkable potential and I hope that through my articles you will be able to see it.
Ho deciso di introdurre questa serie di articoli parlando di Motta San Giovanni, paese dove abbiamo soggiornato ospiti di mio suocero.
Lui, Calabrese di origini ormai residente al nord Italia, possiede nel paese una grande villa, dove ogni estate e quando ha tempo si reca per un po’ di relax.
La villa è immersa dalla natura, circondata da uliveti e ricca di vegetazione tipica della macchia mediterranea.
Inoltre trovandosi in collina, anche in estate si è travolti da una brezza di aria fresca.
I decided to introduce this series of articles talking about Motta San Giovanni, country where we stayed guests of my father-in-law.
He, Calabrese of origins now residing in northern Italy, owns in the country a large villa, where every summer and when he has time he goes for a bit of relaxation.
The villa is surrounded by nature, surrounded by olive groves and rich in typical Mediterranean vegetation.
Also being in the hills, even in summer you are overwhelmed by a breeze of fresh air.
Motta San Giovanni
Mòtt , come viene denominata dagli stessi calabresi, è una piccola cittadina in provincia di Reggio Calabria. Si trova in zona collinare a circa 450 mt. sul livello del mare. A una forma a cono se la si guarda da lontano. Guardarla al tramonto vi lascerà a bocca aperta. La sua posizione permette di vedere in lontananza il mare.
Mòtt , as it is called by the Calabrians themselves, is a small town in the province of Reggio Calabria. It is located in a hilly area about 450 m. above sea level. A cone shape if you look from afar. Watching it at sunset will leave you speechless. Its location allows you to see the sea in the distance.
Da non perdere il giro per la città in macchina, a piedi essendo in pendenza risulterebbe molto faticoso, ma vi consiglio di utilizzare macchine di piccole dimensioni, noi abbiamo preso una smart, poichè le strade sono veramente strette.
Siamo saliti fino al quartiere di Suso, parte più antica della città, ancora abitata e che da dove è possibile vedere in maniera chiara lo stretto di Messina e l’Etna perchè si trovano proprio di fronte.
Do not miss the ride around the city by car, walking being sloping would be very tiring, but I recommend using small cars, we took a smart, because the streets are really narrow.
We went up to the district of Suso, the oldest part of the city, still inhabited and from where you can clearly see the Strait of Messina and Etna because they are right in front.
The town of Motta was a village of miners, during the economic boom, the need for work, pushed many inhabitants of Motta to emigrate and find work in the mines. Many of these lost their lives in tunnels, it is estimated that almost 35 % of those who left ( two inhabitants out of 5 ).
Many, however, died of silicosis and respiratory diseases, all due to the heavy work they did in the mine. Just to pay tribute and remember these fallen was made for them a monument, always visitable, whose shape reminds just a gallery and where they were still placed the tools that were used during the work. The monument can always be visited and does not require the payment of any ticket.
