Traversing the breathtaking Canadian Rocky Mountains / Travesía por las impresionantes Montañas Rocallosas canadienses

Rocky Mountain Trip 29.jpg

Almost thirteen years ago, I had the privilege of touring Canada's British Columbia Parks mountain range, more commonly called the Rocky Mountains. It was a pleasant trip, full of lots of energy in contact with nature and a bit of adventure. If you like heights, cold and the possibility of meeting a grizzly bear you must go to this place.

Due to the large volume of photographs and sites visited, in this first installment I am going to show you the beginning of this exciting journey. I remember that it all started on a Friday in August 2008. I had arrived at the meeting point, in front of the Fairmont Waterfront Vancouver, a hotel in Downtown. After a few minutes of organization, the bus started at about 9:00 am and by noon we were at a restaurant on the outskirts of the city. The first day we only traveled to get closer to the center of the mountain range. The second day would be the start of the good stuff.

The scenery along the way was very varied. In this shot we pass by a lake and a boat sails parallel on the water.

Natural Bridge / Puente Natural

The Natural Bridge is a rock formation that serves as a natural bridge over the Kicking Horse River, very close to the town of Field in Yoho National Park.

The bridge is formed by these rocks that as you can see are eroded in the center. The bluish color gives the impression that the water is super cold. Who wants a dip?

Normally I don't suffer from cold, but believe me it was freezing despite the sun.

Moraine Lake / Lago Moraine

Moraine Lake is located within Banff National Park, occupies an area of half a square kilometer and its waters come from that glacier you see in the background in the picture above. Whichever point you look at it from, you will always have a spectacular view. I was lucky enough to go in summer and the sun shone beautifully on its surface. A curious fact is that most rivers and lakes in Canada owe their beautiful turquoise blue color to a whitish powder that comes from the rocks of the glaciers and settles on the bottom.

In this place tourists have different
options to enjoy, from staying at the
Moraine Lake Lodge hotel, shopping
for souvenirs, sailing in canoes or kayaks,
hiking or just walking around, enjoying
the view and taking the best pictures.

Since my itinerary was on a tight schedule, I dedicated myself to taking pictures and appreciating the marvelous view in front of me.

There is a photograph of this site that is known as the *"Twenty Dollar View"* because it was printed on a Canadian twenty dollar bill in 1969 and 1979.

"One of the things I enjoy most in life is traveling. During a trip I hardly sleep, I don't like to miss anything, do you? "

Recommendations for visiting the Rockies

  • The tour I took was through a tour company that offers transfer, lodging and tour guide services. If you are visiting Canada I advise you to pay for this type of services, because they will take you to the best places and you will forget about having to deal with complex logistics.
  • Take appropriate warm clothes and gloves, even if it is summer. The cold is extreme, especially at night. I remember the first night in Banff I had to walk about eight blocks back to the hotel and the temperature had dropped to 0˚C. It really was very difficult to walk in those conditions and only in the sweater I have in the pictures.
  • Forget about heels or casual shoes. Wear comfortable shoes and if they are for hiking even better.
  • Take your camera. It is indispensable. Also remember to recharge the batteries the night before and, if you can, take two or more memory cards. You don't want to run out of space to take pictures or run out of battery at the most important moment of the trip.

  • Lleva abrigo y guantes apropiados, aunque sea verano.

If you read me and found it interesting, then I invite you to follow me, because I have yet to show other sites of this incredible mountain range in Canada and other parts of the world that I have had the privilege to visit.
