Good evening, friends, During my trip through Boyacá, I had the opportunity to visit one of the most important sites in Colombian history: the Pantano de Vargas Monument, the site of one of the decisive battles in the fight for our independence.
This battle took place on July 25, 1819, several years after the famous episode of the Florero de Llorente. There, the patriotic troops led by Simón Bolívar faced off against the Spanish army in a battle that at times seemed lost. In the midst of this difficult situation, Bolívar uttered one of the most memorable phrases in our history to Colonel Venezolano Juan José Rondón: “Colonel Rondón, save the homeland!” Rondón, accompanied by just fourteen llanero lancers, carried out a heroic charge that turned the tide of the battle and secured the patriots’ victory.
It is also impossible to discuss this campaign without remembering Manuela Beltrán and, especially, Antonia Santos, as well as the many women who supported the cause of independence. Among them stands out the figure of the brave Policarpa Salavarrieta, known as “La Pola,” who used various strategies to obtain information from the Spanish and collaborate with the patriots. Likewise, during the independence campaigns, there were women who went so far as to disguise themselves as men to participate in military and support duties, demonstrating tremendous courage in an era when their role was rarely recognized.
Located between Paipa and Tunja, this place is relatively small but steeped in history and symbolism. It also features a shopping area where you can buy handicrafts, ruanas, and typical regional souvenirs, as well as enjoy Boyacá’s cuisine. For my part, I took the opportunity to try some traditional sweets and pair them with a delicious craft beer.
It was a real pleasure to visit this place with my biker friends, explore its grounds, and take some photos to preserve the memory. Without a doubt, I love documenting every place I visit and sharing it with you, so you can learn a little more about the culture, history, and beauty of our country. Colombia is full of wonderful spots that let us learn, enjoy, and feel proud of our roots.

Buenas noches amigos hivers, En mi recorrido por Boyacá tuve la oportunidad de visitar uno de los lugares más importantes para la historia de Colombia: el Monumento al Pantano de Vargas, escenario de una de las batallas decisivas en la lucha por nuestra independencia.
Este combate tuvo lugar el 25 de julio de 1819, varios años después del famoso episodio del Florero de Llorente. Allí, las tropas patriotas lideradas por Simón Bolívar se enfrentaron al ejército español en una batalla que por momentos parecía perdida. En medio de la difícil situación, Bolívar pronunció una de las frases más recordadas de nuestra historia al coronel Venezolano Juan José Rondón:¡Coronel Rondón, salve usted la patria!. Rondón, acompañado por apenas catorce lanceros llaneros, realizó una carga heroica que cambió el rumbo del combate y permitió la victoria patriota.
También es imposible hablar de esta campaña sin recordar a Manuela Beltrán y, especialmente, a Antonia Santos, así como a muchas mujeres que apoyaron la causa independentista. Entre ellas sobresale la figura de la valiente Policarpa Salavarrieta, conocida como "La Pola", quien utilizó diferentes estrategias para obtener información de los españoles y colaborar con los patriotas. Asimismo, durante las campañas independentistas hubo mujeres que llegaron a disfrazarse de hombres para participar en labores militares y de apoyo, demostrando un enorme valor en una época en la que su papel pocas veces era reconocido.
Ubicado entre Paipa y Tunja, este lugar es relativamente pequeño, pero está cargado de historia y simbolismo. Además, cuenta con una zona comercial donde se pueden adquirir artesanías, ruanas, recuerdos típicos de la región y disfrutar de la gastronomía boyacense. En mi caso, aproveché para probar algunos dulces tradicionales y acompañarlos con una rica cerveza artesanal.
Fue muy grato visitar este sitio junto a mis amigos moteros, recorrer sus espacios y capturar algunas fotografías para conservar el recuerdo. Sin duda, me gusta dejar registro de cada lugar que visito y compartirlo con ustedes, para que conozcan un poco más de la cultura, la historia y la belleza que tiene nuestro país. Colombia está llena de rincones maravillosos que nos permiten aprender, disfrutar y sentirnos orgullosos de nuestras raíces.
